What would cause the brake controller light to flicker occasionally during normal driving (when not applying the brakes). Normally it is on only when applying the brakes.
I just realized my battery is completely dead and most likely was when this problem occurred. Could the dead battery be the cause.
Yes,trailer brakes need to see 12v from battery on trailer. Is it a aftermarket controller or one that comes with the truck
Are you sure?
I've used my dump trailer without a battery in it and been pretty sure the brakes worked. Maybe not tho! Good to know!! I know my breakaway breaks wouldn't work without but I sure thought my regular breaks did.
The brakes will still work regardless of the battery, the battery is for the break away if the trailer was to fall off,if the battery is dead the brakes don't operate. I have a tekonsha P3 which monitors the trailers battery,if it's low it let's you know could be why his was flashing
Sounds obvious but is the pigtail in the back of it plugged in tightly on both ends?

What light exactly is on? And when you say the battery is dead you mean the TV battery? Is it possible the brake light circuit in the TV is malfunctioning causing the brake controller light to flicker and the TV brake lights to be draining the battery?
