Check WD hitch bolts for tightness.

I have periodically checked the bolts on my equalizer hitch for correct torque. They have always been tight after the first couple of tows.

Yesterday I checked them again before leaving Tucson. The 2 nuts on the right hand "L" bracket were loose! The bracket could be wiggled by hand.

So ....please check your hitch bolts. I'm glad (and lucky) that I checked before the next tow.

We probably have the same frame on our trailer Owensailor. It doesn't help that there's a gap big enough to stick your finger between the bottom bolt and the frame which allows the whole thing to pivot back and forth unless the bolts are very tight. Making them to tight will bend the L bracket assembly.

I just had to tighten mine this weekend. The bracket was wiggling pretty badly. I agree, all those bolts should be checked frequently.

I was surprised to find the little ball on my hitch for the sway bar was loose. I have a written checklist for breaking camp and hitching up. This is on it.

One of mine was noticeably loose last season. I'll now check before every trip. Good tip.

Last fall I towed my friends boat to storage and every time I stopped and took off I heard a clunk. Ended checking it out and the bolts were loose. Now its on my mental checklist to check often.

Can you put a sleeve over the bolt threads that is slight less width than the frame? I would think this would allow you to tighten the bolt as much as required without over doing it and bending the bracket. Just a thought.

A slight bend in the bracket is not a bad thing IMHO. I thought about bushings in mine but so far it has not moved. Also keep an eye on your hitch head bolts, they will also losen as will the ball itself.

After reading this post I have checked and found my hitch head bolts were loose quite often after every other trip almost.
