chev 2500 gas mileage

Looking at a chev 2500 with a 6.0l gas engine. with a 373 or 410 rear end. Is the gas mileage less with a 410 rear end. MY MAIN CONCERN IS WHEN I USE MY TRUCK EVERY DAY. Tow mileage does not matter being that it will be park in one place. The 373 rear end has a tow weight of 9600 lbs 410 has a tow weight of 10600. The trailer i am looking at has a dry weight of 8600 lbs.

For a dry weight of 8600 lbs., you will do better with the 4.10 gears when towing. Mileage difference shouldn't be that great between the two ratios when not towing, unless you drive 75+ mph much of the time. If the 6.0 is paired with the Allison 6 speed auto, that should be a great tow vehicle for you.

Your trailer's gross weight (GVWR) will provide the answer to your question here, not the dry weight. If your trailer's GVWR exceeds 9,600 lbs., you should have the 4.10. However, If your trailer's GVWR exceeds 10,600, then you'd better forget about a 2500 and start looking at a 3500.

Why put safety and performance at risk over what will probably amount to a few miles per gallon? If you get into some serious mountain climbing, the 3.73 will not be up to the task with that heavy of a trailer.

Well, just to throw in my 2 cents worth, I pull an 11,000# 5er with a Ford F350 V-10 gasser with 3:73 gears. It slows down a little on a steep hill, but otherwise does the job just fine. Gets about 9-11 mpg towing, and 12-13 non towing. Yes, the 4:10 will get you more capacity, but you might regret that when using it daily for non towing. I would go along with FPM III in recommending a 3500 or F-350, but think I would pass on the 4:10 gears, if I were making the decision. JMHO

I have a 06 Chevy 2500 with 6.0 gasser and 3.73 gears and I can tell you 1st hand go with the 4.10 gears if you don't you will be very dissapointed. Gas mileage on mine is 12-15 mpg daily driving and 7-8mpg towing. There is very little to no difference in mpg with the 4.10 vs 3.73. Another thing if the trailer your looking at is 8600lbs dry your going to be pushing(probably exceeding) the rated limits of a 4.10 geared truck when loaded.

The Chevy 6.0 gas engines are not not paired to a Allison transmission they are paired to a 4L80E transmission. The Allison is only paired to the Duramax Diesal and 8.1 gas engines.

If mileage is an issue get a diesel. I have the 6.0 3.73 and get about 14mpg without towing. Towing I get around 7mpg

Mileage depends on how you drive it... and where you drive it... a guy I was talking to has the twin to my truck and only gets 8 mpg solo I get 23.2 solo.. he drives 85-90 I stick to 60...

For the 2013 Silverado here are the tow ratings. Page 11. There is about a 3 to 4000 lb difference in tow rating and gross combined weight rating in the 3.73 and the 4.10 rear 2500 models.

Since 08 they changed to a 6 spd copy of the Alison. Love mine and ill the guys I worked with at the Chevy dealer say they are just as solid. I get 13-16 mph town and 10 ish towing ( gramps older trailer 4500 lbs dry).

The 6 speed behind the 6.0L is a GM 6L90E, not an Allison. That being said, definitely go with the 4.10's as the trailer weight requires it. Not sure if you are looking at new or used trucks but if you are looking at new, I would recommend going with a used diesel and not even worry about mileage. It will be 30-50% better than the gasser all day, everyday.

You are correct my bad I had forgot about the 08 and newer trucks with 6.0 gas engines being attached to the new 6 speed trans.
