Chevy 2007-2008 2500/3500 Recall

I got a recall letter today on the truck in my sig for defective air bag(s). Here is a link: Recall Report. This recall has to with Takata air bag issues.

The recall letter explains that "excessive internal pressure when the air bag is deployed" could result in "metal fragments (which) could pass through the air bag cushion material, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants". However, an enclosed pamphlet says: "Your truck is still safe to drive". How reassuring.

Didn't know GM used those bags. I always see Japanese makes when they hit the news. The auto industry has gotten to be to global. My new Chrysler has a US engine, German transmission, all on a Alpha Romeo chassis. Who knows what else is sourced...

Sourcing is nothing new, it's just that in the past the big 3 owned most of the companies that did the sourcing. GM for example owned Delco/Delphi, which later was spun off as it's own entity, then later went belly up. Dephi made parts for several manufacturers.

I got the same letter. Found it interesting that it was exclusive the passenger air bag, and that once parts for a repair are made available I'll receive additional communication indicating I can bring it in for repair.

I recall in previous models I could manually turn off the passenger air bag, but I don't see that possibility in my current truck.

it is safe to drive, it's just not safe to crash... Like the ol saying, it's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom that'll that'll kill you
