Controlling Sway and my Story

I use the husky sway control friction system. It works fine. It's not expensive. Make sure you get both left and right side installed simultaneously. You'll be good to go and it won't cost much. I've traveled to Sequoia, Yosemite, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Arches, Teton, Yellowstone, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore & Glacier, literally over 10,000 miles with that system. It's cheap and it works. PERIOD.

Sounds like the semi driver was kind of a d-bag. But they always claim to be the best drivers and the passenger vehicles are always the unsafe ones. SMH.

Speaking of the friction control bars. It was mentioned that you have to remove them when backing up. If you make an extremely sharp turn then it is possible to compress those bars beyond the point that they can realistically go. This can cause something to bend, bind, or break off one of the balls to which the bar is attached. However, I back up all the time with mine still attached and find that it is pretty unlikely for me to turn quite as sharp as it would require to have such a problem.

I would suggest backing up at an angle, hop out, and check it. Keep tightening the angle until you see what is maximum for your set-up. Then, you'll know. My guess is you will probably find that in most circumstances you won't angle it that sharp when maneuvering. But, again, at least you would know with certainty since you've already checked it out.

I have been using friction sway control since 1978.
I still have my original hitch, equalizer bars and sway bars. I have installed all new now as I was concerned about metal fatigue after around 50 years use. They were used when I got them back then.
I have never had any problems.
