Does anyone else tow WITH their Jeep?

I know a lot of people tow their Jeep BEHIND their RV/motorhome but how many tow WITH their Jeep? I am having a small bit of trouble at highways speeds but if I go ahead and put the stock tires back on, I shouldn't have issues anymore... The 174BH Baja sits pretty high and there is a LOT more drag than my last trailer setup...

Jeeps are awfully short wheelbase for towing. Last one I saw towing the jeep and the trailer were all over the road...

Gearing change would also help. That's a lot of wind resistance between the trailer and TV!

Not with a "jeep", but I had better luck towing with my Jeep Liberty that I did with a Grande Cherokee. I think that's because the Liberty was more like a true Jeep suspension vs the Cherokee, which seemed to be designed to ride more like a car. I was only pulling pop-ups at the time, but the Liberty did fine, in spite of the relatively "square" wheelbase.

Wranglers have a terrible tow rating. 2000-3500 pounds depending on your specifics. I only tow my jetski

My rig is a '91 Bronco towing a '15 27DSRL. Looking at your rig I would recommend rear air bags to level the Jeep and maybe gearing if needed. I went from 3.55:1 to 4.56:1, it made a world of difference.

I've readjusted the WDH since this pic. This was right after I got it home from the dealer.

Airbags possible down the road.

Regearing absolutely not needed. Diesel with 420 lb/ft of torque has no issues towing anywhere.

Towed like a champ last weekend, no problems on the highway or with the somewhat strong head/cross winds we had. Even passing semis on a single lane at 100km/hr it didn't wiggle very much at all.

Neo by the looks of your setup, your rear is sagging a fair bit. Perhaps some bags or if you aren't running one a WDH would help. As for the power, it sucks a lot to turn oversize tires for sure, and those wranglers aren't exactly known for their Torque to begin with (i am assuming pentastar 3.6?)

The sag is from improper setup of the wd. I am about 2 to 3 inches short from the tongue height and can't get the bars set right. I have to invert my hitch but the spare gets in the way. Going to flip it and put the spare in the cab...

I just ordered my 17RB Hummingbird and going to pull it with my 2014 JKU. I have re geared and put airbags in the rear. What WDH are you using and what is your weights on your trailer?

I've been trying to find someone else that tows WITH a Jeep.

Here's the air bags I went with. I also have a 3.5" RockKrawler lift.

We have a Grand Cherokee Overland which includes automatic airbag suspension. But!! It does NOT transfer weight to the front axel. That is the job of my WDH (Andersen). After a few miles I stopped and adjusted it to prevent front end lightness and steering problems. After a second stop I found the right weight transfer and since have not had a problem. We just returned from a 2600 mile round trip including mountains, interstates, wind , etc. But I give credit to having a properly adjusted weight distribution hitch. Airbags will not transfer weight, just level the vehicle which is not enough for safety.

How well do you like your Anderson WDH?

I really like it better than bar and chain types. It has reduced sway to almost nothing. It is lighter and easier to attach/detach. Less weight on the rear axel as it weights a lot less than bar type WDH.
It does have a quirk in that you need to be at the same angle you detached at to make the reattachment work right. You can see online at Andersen some videos on this problem.

Nice. I have been getting mixed reviews on it. Some people love it some people hate it. Several have said the bushings have "squeezed out" not sure what they are talking about unless they are over tightening the chains.

The bushing squeeze out problem is addressed at the Andersen website, seems to be a manufacturing problem that has been solved unless you buy an old stock hitch from a dealer. Mine was a special order and I have not encountered that problem.
Really like it better but my Rv is an SLX 195RB that weights in at 3,000 + load, maybe 3400 total. Bigger trailers may be different.
I really know that mine is working for me as the dealer did not adjust it tight enough and take enough load and for the first 50 miles I felt the front wheels were floaty? not sure how to describe it. With subsequent tightening I found no steering problems and never had a sway problem.

Oh nice. Yeah I am going to be pulling a Jayco 17RB Hummingbird which is dry about 2800lbs and loaded will be around the 3500 mark. I like the Andersen because it doesn't seem to be as heavy as some of the other WDH's.
