Duramax diesel problem or not?
My 2005 Duramax 6.6 has developed a pulsation- It is most noticeable at idle or when in reverse- I do have an AFE air filter and a "chip"- The truck runs as strong as ever but the pulsation concerns me- Anyone out there had this problem? Any info appreciated- THANX in advance for your input-DD

Most recommendations I have read at a Duramax Forum say to remove the chip and return to stock and see if the problem persists. If it does then it isn't chip related and should be investigated. If it goes away, then you have the culprit.

The MPROP on the fuel pump (pressure regulator on the pump) is usually the most common culprit. The part is usually around $180-$200, labor however is around 5-6 hrs. This will not usually throw a code either. Not super serious in the world of diesels.

EdAtlanta has a good recommendation. If you go back to stock and still have an issue, post your problem at The Diesel Place. Those boys usually can make further suggestions as to a fix.

Check your fuel filter, they sometimes crack.

also while your at it clean the fuel cooler fins that is just in front of the fuel tank.have you tried maybe some Lucus or other fuel injector cleaner?

I add Stanadyne to every refueling- I think it is a cetane booster and detergent- THANX for all replies- I will try to check the fuel filter for cracks and try to clean that other area as well- Kinda hard to crawl around under the TV when you are 81 but I still try- JMHO- DD

This is the water sensor/drain valve on the durmax 2001-2011 and quite often they can develop a crack. Because it is on the vacuum side of e fuel system you will not see any evidence of a leak, however if it is sucking air you can experience issues similar to what you are having.
