equalizer hitch problem

When I first purchased our TT the dealer set up our WD hitch, the nose of the camper was obviously lower than the rear. It towed like a dream, even in severe wind. But I started reading too much and read that the TT should be as level as possible. So I adjusted the hitch height on my WD so that the TT is level and now the camper is really squirly even on a calm day, which makes it really difficult to tow. Should I go back to nose down or try something else? I'm at wits end, ANY help is MUCH appreciated.

If it towed like a dream the way it was originally setup, I wouldn't mess with it. Set it back to what it was. A little nose-down is fine.

Nose down is always better than perfect level. Also loading the TT is just as important as how it sits.Added weight needs to be placed over the axles or in front of the axles if at all possible.
Over time we keep adding stuff to the trailer and you need to consider where it's placed and how it affects tongue weight. Any pound added behind the axles removes some tongue weight, it's beam geometry. The axles are the pivot point on the beam. The distance to the tongue is one resistance distance, the distance behind the axles is the second resistance distance. Perfect weight distribution on the beam = zero tongue weight. The design is to keep a percentage of the weight positive on the front end, this is called tongue weight. When you add weight behind the axle you change the percentage.

So, it's possible that you messed up your setup by moving the hitch up and it's also possible that moving it back down will not help you if you also added to much weight behind the axle.

I hope this helps

Keep in mind that your RV dealer adjusted your WDH under "unloaded" conditions, so it will have to be re-adjusted under TV/TT "loaded" conditions. Any attempt to re-adjust the WDH from the RV dealer's initial adjustment won't help.

For ideal TV handling of the 28DSBH a 13% to 15% loaded tongue weight (of TT loaded weight) should be achieved. The only way to dial-in a WDH is a visit to the local CAT scale..., the CAT results will tell you everything you need to know to properly adjust your WDH.

CAT scale how-to: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3871

Hope this helps.
