Fastway zip break away cable?

Anyone replace there wire breakaway cable with one of these? pickes up but have not installed it yet. It is a 6' cable and just stretching it out by hand it appears will be a tight fit. Just concerned about the constant tension on the switch?

That is what came with ours. Never had any issues, and it too feels tight.

Mine is pretty snug too, but hasn't caused any problems. It takes a lot of force to pull the pin out of the switch.

I replaced the original cable with a 4' Fastway. The cable was too long, and dragged on the ground unless wrapped up a bit. Never had the pin pull out in 3 years. I put a caribiner on the TV side to clip to the safety chain loop.

Just keep in mind that the vehicle end of the cable should be attached to the VEHICLE not to some part of the hitch or chains. Think of it in a worst case scenario, not just if the trailer comes off the ball. What if the vehicle hitch breaks. I replaced one of the screws in my license plate with a screw eye and fasten the vehicle end of the break away cable to it.

Good idea! Higher up and easier to get to than the hitch.

I replaced the regular cable with the Fastway 6'. I like it much better. I do not have to coil it with electrical tape like the old one to keep it from being too long and scraping on the ground.

Same here. I replaced mine with the 4' version. Got it on Amazon. A lot better than constantly fiddling with the 8' of cable provided. My dealer put a zip tie on it after looping it a couple times, but always having to enlarge the loops!

Like this idea...I'm currently running it to the other side of my tailgate...with a carabiner to keep it from sliding back through. (On my Ridgeline the tail gate swings open like a door or down like every other P/U truck...love it!)

Of course as soon as I put it in place, I think of some other reason to get into the trunk and I open the gate and it falls out.

At the time we took delivery I had not yet come across this particular bit of enlightenment. The dealer had just clipped the break-away to one of the safety chains. As I thought about it on the way home that didn't make any sense - a quick search here provided me with the necessary details - proving just how useful this forum can be... Before taking the trailer out again I added an eye-bolt to the frame and keep a small carabiner hanging on it just for this purpose. I have mine coiled once and it hangs just a bit lower than the safety chains.
