Ford Excursion or Suburban 2500 Owners with gas engines ?

Wanting opinions on the ability of a Ford Excursion or a Suburban 2500 to tow a 32bhds Jayflight trailer. Would be looking at one with a gas engine probably a V 10 (FORD)or 8.1 V8 (GM). What type of fuel economy would these vehicles get towing and not towing and which would be better for this trailer ? Thanks for any input.

We have a 2003 Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1 engine. We have been towing our 32BHDS for about 8000 miles so far on a one year roadtrip and we are getting about 8 to 9MPG depending on the day and gas. Without the trailer we do not get more than 12MPG. We figure the rig was meant for towing and that is what we do with it. We have been very happy with the performance and reliability so far.

Hope that helps!

Towing I get 7-9 mpg depends on wind, weather and road conditions. Non towing get 12-13 in town, on highway 14-16. Towing our trailer we are at 17,000 pounds total. Length towing is 57 feet. I do have the puter tweeked with the superchip for towing. Also have a 44 gal gas tank. When towing I have to use 91 octane gas. See below for truck and trailer.

We get about the same (8-10) mpg towing (18,000 total) as Parcany with the 2003 F350 V-10 gasser. About 11-12 non-towing. Truck is factory with no added chips or other mods. Factory 38 gal tank. Truck handles the 33ft 5er with no problems.

Had no problem towing my 32BHDS with my 8.1. There was plenty of power. Just make sure you have replaced the hitch with a new class V. I was getting 6-8 mpg. Getting 12-13 mpg highway, averaged 10-11 mpg.

Mine was dedicated tow vehicle, and not used for daily activities. Therefore, I eliminated the extra vehicle and got new pickup for family use. The new 6.0, 6 sp, 3.73 does a fine job with the 32BHDS.
