Also, I wouldn't ever advocate towing over max weight. It's a major legal issue. Wait until you get in a wreck. If they find out any component of you rig was overweight, you will be liable wether it's your fault or not. Also, your TV is only as good as the weakest link - the transmission. You may think you truck is ok, but your tranny will fail earlier than it would have had you not overloaded it. Talk to any tranny shop. I highly recommend not towing over gross weight. Even if you think you guys are "good enough to handle it".

That's another reason I was never comfortable in my half ton truck. The 4L60 is not up to that task.

The 4L60 is nothing more than an electronically shifted 700R4.

Wow... am I on RV.net all of the sudden?

What about 3/4 ton trucks that DON'T have diesels and a diesel engine brake? How do they stop that weight when the trailer brakes fail?

Did I ever even suggest going over max weight in my post? You quoted me, so I assume you are replying to me. I have a Tundra with a 10,100 lbs tow rating. I advocated towing up to about 8,000 lbs. Simple math leaves me under my max tow rating. I am fully aware of my payload and axle ratings and would never go above them, so still under my ratings.
