I have had two CTD's with a new one that has the 6.7. They aren't meant to be race cars; but man can they haul. I agree that some gassers will beat my CTD off the line on level pavement, and I could probably beat some and catch up and pass the ones that took me off the line; but I didn't buy a CTD to race, I bought it for what they do best..."towing". And going up the mountains with my RV in tow, I'll pass any gasser that's hauling an RV with ease. In fact from a dead stop on a hill with my RV , I will outpull a gasser that has an RV in tow easily and they will be in my rear view mirror. I've never had to use the slow lane on the hills. These Cummins diesels have 800# plus torque and going downhill the EB is an awesome speed control and I never have to use my brakes. Diesels and Gassers...as I've said in other posts are apples and oranges.

Well , I am pretty slow going up the big hills with the dodge and trailer,
I put the four ways on and just do the best I can.
I must say, I got a little upset, with another truck and jayco owner, trying to pass me going up a long hill on a two lane road, Was not impressed.
I cannot move on to the side of the road, ( will lose what ever speed I have, and the shoulder is too soft)
Some people just need to slow down and THINK!

Don't get upset when other people pass you up a hill if you're going really slow. It's dragging a heavy trailer up a big hill at slow speed for a long time that generates high transmission temps. If you're having that much of a problem maintaining a safe speed up hill then your truck is lacking for that size of trailer. Just sayin'.

The truck is a 1995 dodge 2500, one ton, it is just slow, Full load of water, If I do not get a good run up the hill, Speed limited 60k just before the hill up.
The only reason I was concern about the safety of this person trying to pass me on a double white line with traffic coming the other way.
It I could of moved over then I would of.

Why would you get upset with someone passing your struggling truck going up a long hill, that doesn't make any sense?

Two wrongs don't make a right. Too much trailer for the truck, regardless of the numbers and brand on the side. If you are unable to maintain close to the speed limit (within 5 mph) you need a smaller TT or more capable TV. This caused the initial slow moving hazard but does not exonerate the idiot passing on the double line into oncoming traffic.

Unfortunately the tires on most of the Jayco TT's are only rated for 65mph. If I'm towing through a 75mph (or faster) roadway, there's nothing I can do about those tires. I ignore what's happening behind me honestly. They can wait and there's nothing I can do about it anyway. I'm not an A** though so if I have an opportunity to pull over safely, I'll let the train of vehicles behind me pass when I can.

That's scary when people are towing 70 mph or faster. I am trying to keep distance from those drivers.

In California there is 55 mph limit for towing, and I am very happy about this. I am from Europe where in most countries the speed limit is around 50-55 mph when towing.

I saw a fiver with a similar sign attached to the roof ladder just the other day. It said "Caution, 55 mph". I wish I had been able to get a pic, but I was alone and the road was challenging. At least enough that I didn't want to be fiddling with my phone to get a pic.

I have also seen a sign on the back of a big rig trailer that said "Caution, speed governed at 65 mph".

It would be nice if people had a little more patience for heavy vehicles towing. It's not just the ones who take a grade slow, it's everywhere. I see it constantly. People just don't understand or care what it takes to safely operate a heavy vehicle. Sometimes I think it's a true testament to many of the OTR truckers that we don't have more highway deaths than we do. Granted, some are no good, but I can't imagine how many times a day they avoid splattering some one having an ID10T error.

I've even gotten the ol' one finger salute and tantrum for (gasp!) driving the speed limit while towing!! They got all upset because I didn't move to the shoulder (which is littered with all manner of harmful debris), in an area where there are passing lanes every few miles specifically designed for him to pass me!

Stay out of Colorado on a summer weekend then. Here in the eastern half of the state, I see them doing 75 and even higher regularly. Usually on the freeway between Denver and Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. Sometimes with a 5th wheel and then a boat behind that.

I have towed RVs for so long that approaching slow vehicles from behind doesn't bother me unless they insist on occupying the fast lane permanently. I understand what they are going through. Most steeper hills have a slow lane for heavy vehicles, and I use that. There are times I just can't get my 24000 lb rig up to 65 mph while climbing hills, even with 600 ft lb of torque to use. It's not my obligation to destroy my drivetrain while trying. So, I drive at my comfortable pace, which is usually between 62-65 on flat multi-lane highways, and something slightly under or at the speed limit on slower roads. I'll pull over if I have 4 or 5 vehicles stacked up behind me, unless it's on a really steep hill where I will struggle to get going again. Momentum is our friend with heavy vehicles, and it often pays to try to keep whatever momentum you already have.

I have had people become annoyed for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Two lanes each way, and some idiot has to change lanes to pass when he is over the speed limit and I'm crawling along in the right lane. He gets mad and cuts me off to the point I have to jam on the brakes to avoid him taking out my left front wheel. It's happened twice I can recall with this rig, and I just have to wonder what sort of jerk does something that vindictive and stupid.
