It was just wrong...

This past weekend was the first time I got to pull our 28BHBE (8100#) through the mountains. We were pulling through Boone to Grandfather Mt NC. While at a red light, I was beside a Tundra pulling a camper close to mine in size. When the light turned green, I kinda left him behind real quick!!! I didn't accelerate any faster than I usually do, but my CTD just out pulled him from a dead stop! The wife just looked at me and shook her head....the more I pull, the more I'm loving this CTD.

On the return trip home, there's a 4 mile stretch of 8% grade down hill and trucks have a 30MPH limit. Since it was my first time, i down shifted to 5th and let the EB do the work. And everything worked like a charm. A 5 hr trip home and used only 1/2 a tank of fuel. That's another win for this truck.

What is CTD?
What is EB?

Far too many abbreviations in use today. Unless you are part of a small group of individuals many people do not know or mis-interpret these abbreviations. KWIM?

Engine brake

I live in the mountains of western NC. We pull a fiver with a Chevy Duramax/Allison trans. With the engine brake on, all I have to do is step on the brakes and the trans downshifts + engages the engine brake. It will slow the truck and trailer on very steep grades, usually without touching the brake again.
The engine brake is the best thing since sliced bread!!!

Happy camping.

Sorry to be a downer...Just because you pulled away from the Tundra does not mean the truck was struggling, some people drive like there is an EB (Egg-Lands Best) under the peddle. You both have to know its a race before it's a race.

Regarding CTD with EB - yes please, I like my EB set to Auto whenever I tow.

It took me a year to figure out what my 27 DSRL trailer acronym meant so I get your drift.

Eb(b) and Flow.
"Ebb and flow (also called ebb and flood and flood drain) are two phases of the tide or any similar movement of water. The ebb is the outgoing phase, when the tide drains away from the shore; and the flow is the incoming phase when water rises again."

It seems every trip I have a CTD or DMAX pass me up a hill.. thing is I maintain my speed up hills. I think it's a ego thing lol. I console myself by thinking of the huge payment I don't have.
Glad the OP likes his CTD.. I have many of them in our fleet and aside from the after treatmeant issues that plague them, they are bulletproof.

My thoughts exactly. I towed with a Tundra, own a Ram with the CTD now. I can promise you that my Tundra was WAY faster to accelerate than my Ram was, towing my 29QBS.

The Toyota has 381 HP and can quickly rev up to get those horses moving without and torque management issues. The CTD only has 350 hp (assuming you don't have the Aisin trans) and is a slower revving engine and has a lot of torque mgmt in the lower gears.

I have tons of power with my CTD, but I don't ever mash the accelerator when I drive it... especially towing. I'm sure a Ford 5.4 could "beat me in a race" towing, not because its a faster vehicle, but simply because I wouldn't engage it in a speed contest...

I heard Cialis works wonders for EB! But they say if you suffer from acceleration lasting longer than 4 seconds you may need medical attention!

I think it would be funny if you used Emily Blunt (EB) do the work.

I have one of them CTD thangs... and it tows great... but if I had it to do over, it would be a Ford. I've had too many electrical issues and a trade may soon be in the works.

Everyone knows a diesel will out tow a gasser by far, especially a newer one of the last few years, the power is incredible.
However, on a trip back from the beach I caught up with my buddy at a stop light. 2013 Ford F250 with the 6.2 gasser in it. Towing almost the same camper. Well, you might guess what happened when the light turned green but I doubt you'll guess the outcome.
Yup, zero to around 45 (lol) he got me. Granted he was around 5K RPM and probably burned a gallon of gas but either way he got me off the line.
