It was just wrong...

This past weekend was the first time I got to pull our 28BHBE (8100#) through the mountains. We were pulling through Boone to Grandfather Mt NC. While at a red light, I was beside a Tundra pulling a camper close to mine in size. When the light turned green, I kinda left him behind real quick!!! I didn't accelerate any faster than I usually do, but my CTD just out pulled him from a dead stop! The wife just looked at me and shook her head....the more I pull, the more I'm loving this CTD.

On the return trip home, there's a 4 mile stretch of 8% grade down hill and trucks have a 30MPH limit. Since it was my first time, i down shifted to 5th and let the EB do the work. And everything worked like a charm. A 5 hr trip home and used only 1/2 a tank of fuel. That's another win for this truck.

What is CTD?
What is EB?

Far too many abbreviations in use today. Unless you are part of a small group of individuals many people do not know or mis-interpret these abbreviations. KWIM?

Engine brake

I live in the mountains of western NC. We pull a fiver with a Chevy Duramax/Allison trans. With the engine brake on, all I have to do is step on the brakes and the trans downshifts + engages the engine brake. It will slow the truck and trailer on very steep grades, usually without touching the brake again.
The engine brake is the best thing since sliced bread!!!

Happy camping.
