Keeping The Bugs Off

I'm looking for ways to control the bug residue on the front of my TV and TT. I have tried several kinds of bug remover but there seems to be no magic potion that will melt them off. A guy at the local body shop suggested spraying the fronts with Armor All but don't wipe it off until you get to your destination. Supposedly the bugs won't stick?? Someone else suggested spraying the front with PAM cooking spray and not wiping off until reaching your destination. We're heading to AK and are expecting some serious bug deposits on the TV and TT. Anyone tried either of these or have a good solution?

I was just coming here to find out the same info for my 5er. After driving to Myrtle Beach and back from Cincinnati, I have a ton of bugs on the front of mine. I wash it with a pressure washer and soft brush. Neither worked so I'm curious what people use to get the bugs off, and what they do to prep the front to make it easier to get them off after trips.

I've used this stuff on my RZR 900 4 to help keep mud from sticking and am thinking of trying it for our next trip in a week, after I get all the bugs off. http://amzn.to/28VnEc1

Is Simple Green a bad idea to use?

I have this, wasn't sure if it was a bad idea to use: Simple Green Pro HD 128 oz. Professional-Grade Heavy-Duty Cleaner-2110000413421 - The Home Depot

I have tried the Pam but it helped very little keeping them off.

So below is what I do at every campground along the way.

I use used dryer sheets wet them and then wipe the bugs off.

Still takes a little elbow grease but much easier.

Not sure about controlling bug residue, but I've heard that those fabric softener sheets for dryers are good for removing the bugs. I have NOT tested this!

Try using lucas slick mist spray wax. My friend uses it and swears by it. I just used it today on our cars after washing. It is awesome stuff. Use it on wet or dry surface and even in direct sunlight. I used tar and bug remover made by Gunk to get bugs off car and truck prior to washing. It worked pretty well.

I'm here in Florida with the infamous "love bugs". I have used the dryer sheets for years & they work great. Don't need to get fancy, the cheapest ones will do. Like was stated earlier, still takes a little scrubbing, but is not bad at all. After I use the sheets, I then wash the area as normal with the brush & car soap to get the softener residue off. With love bugs, you have to get right on it, or they will destroy the paint. Highly acidic little buggers.

Any idea what it is about the dryer sheets that make them work?

I'm going to go buy a box tomorrow and test them out.

My magic solution is a product called "Spray Power" by Crown. Spray it on full strength and they almost slide off. Grab the car wash brush and a pail of soapy water, and they are gone, so are the black streaks.

Have fun in Alaska, I would love to go back.

I've tried Slick Mist before but didn't seem to make any difference.

I use the blue Scotch Brite pads. Definitely not the green ones as they're very abrasive. The blue ones won't scratch the finish. Takes a bit of scrubbing but the bugs come off even it they've been on there a while. I just use regular car wash soap.

After this weekends Bug fest, i am curious about this as well. I wonder if something like RainX would help keep the bugs off.

Nothing keeps them off. It's all in the prep to the surface prior to leaving on how well they come off. I always wax my front cap a day or 2 prior to departure and the front of my truck. I can get more than 50% off with just the hose upon arrival then a light brushing and some car soap gets the rest off.

The longer they sit and bake on the harder it is. I have been using Meguiars Ultimate on the Trailer since new and have been very happy with the results.

If your cap is chalked already then wax may not do it. I can run my nails over the cap and sides an they just slide right off.

I've used dryer sheets before, and they work GREAT!! Won't keep the bugs from getting on there, but sure does make it easy to get them off!

Nope. The best way to do it is to get a spray bottle with some water, put a few dryer sheets in and let it sit for a few minutes. Spray the water on the front of the car, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then grab a sheet, get it wet and start wiping. It takes them right off. Bugs, grease, whatever... it just comes right off.

I do this as "prep work" and wash my car with a good wash/wax combo after I get the bugs and tough grease off with the softener sheets.

It is a bit difficult if you have a lot of area that needs work because the softener sheets are difficult to hold; I end up getting cramps in my hands. I'm going to try wrapping a small sponge next time to see if that helps.
