Not to hijack but this might be related. When you let air out of the tires does this not lead to more rubber on the road and a chance of tread separation

Tires de-rate based upon lower than max air pressure in the tire. You can run 10 ply tires at lower pressure but you will not have 10 ply load range. There are charts out there that show the actual load range of tires at given tire pressures. Higher ply tires do not need the same pressure to carry an unloaded truck as lower ply tires. All this said: there are no actual easy rules of thumb with tires.

On my half ton truck referenced above, I use the vehicle manufacturer recommendations when unloaded, with one change. The recommendations on a pickup assume a load in the bed, so I run less air in the rear tires. The door jamb sticker on my truck recommends 35 psi in all four tires. When I am unloaded, I run 35 in the front and 30 in the rear. I am completely satisfied with the ride quality and tire wear.

When I get ready to pull a trailer, I pump them up to 55 in the front and 65 in the rear.

These tires are LT245/70R17 Firestone Transforce on a 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic half ton crew cab.

I've been wondering about putting LT's on the back of my dually and P-metrics on the front. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? I never rotate the tires on this truck, so that is not a consideration.
I bet a tire shop would advise against mixing the tires like that.

I went though these question myself last year. I did go with LT 'C' rated tires.
If you go with 'P' rated pay attention to the max PSI. The old 'P' rated tires I had a max of 44psi.
The OEM tires for my truck only had a max PSI of 36psi.
Most people including myself like to be at 40+ psi while towing.
