new GM Ecotec3 engines

Has anyone seen the specs on the new Ecotec3 engines coming out for the Sierras and Silverados? The numbers look pretty impressive. The new 5.3 (an $1100 option over the 4.3L) is putting out 355 hp and 383 torque; by comparison my 2007 5.3 is listed at 315 hp and 338 lbs. They are also introducing a 6.2 gas for the 1500 later in the fall with 420 hp and 450 lbs of torque (current 6.0 is at 360/380)....haven't seen any info that the 6.2 will be an option in the 2500s yet. GM is making me drool.

Yeah, I saw that also, it does sound like a significant improvement for the 5.3L.

I just hope they do not have the AFM (active fuel management) that was such a nightmare on the 2008+ 5.3`s. There were many oil consumption issues reported on the Silverado/Sierra forum on very low mileage trucks. But supposedly they fixed all that. I guess I`m old school but I`m just not crazy about 4 cylinders shutting down either.....Those HP and torque numbers are impressive though. The 6.2 (non AFM) always got good reviews but trucks equipped with them were somewhat scarce and pricey! The 6.0`s did not have AFM either but less power then the 6.2`s as noted....

AFM is still there, it seems to work well on ours, I don't how much it helps on the highway but I do think it saves some fuel in town.

The V6 is a remarkable engine. With the 285 hp and 305 lbs, it drives very similiar to the older 5.3. Additionally, it gets 3 mpg more than the 5.3 for empty driving.

Also, it does not feel underpowered when towing its max rating on level ground.

It can tow more but are they upgrading the vehicle so that it can also carry more?

They already have a 6.2L V8 for the 1500, with 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque. The 6.0L is the gas engine for the HDs.
