New Tow Vehicle: Chevrolet 3500

Just picked up my Silverado 3500 Crew Cab SRD, 4x4, LTZ, w/ Duramax/Allison. LOVE IT!

We were towing our 26BH with a Yukon XL with 5.3, was ok. Going through the passes was tough. I couldn't pry the Yukon from my wife, so upgraded my vehicle to the 3500. I thought about 2500, but after all the reading and looking at options, decided for the 3500. 5ver might happen in the future...

After 2 days, I love it!

Congratulations. You never hear anyone complaining about having to much truck.

If we could find a 7 seat 1 ton we would of bought one. We did get an Excursion so we went with a lighter TT.

@usmc616, I too would have liked to have a heavier duty SUV, or at least one with a diesel. I thought long and hard at replacing my 1500 Yukon XL with a 2500 with the 6.0 Gas, but it didn't buy me enough. I don't understand why there isn't a heavier duty SUV still available, and why we can't get diesels.

You will love your new truck.

I've been towing the past 10 years with a 2002 Suburban K2500 with an 8.1 ltr engine. It did a great job towing.

In December I ordered a 2012 GMC Sierra 3500HD crew cab, standard bed, single rear wheel drive with a Duramax LML engine. I picked it up at the dealer on 1/31/12. I've only towed 1000 miles with it, but all I can say is WOW! What a towing beast.

We are looking at 5th wheels, and I joined this forum because. The Jayco Pinnacle was high on our short list.

I'm towing with my 3500 for the first time this weekend. Will be driving about 1k miles over a week from WA to OR coast. Looking forward to it! Over the past 2.5 days of driving I'm getting 14-15mpg non loaded.

I found these forums interesting as I did research on the truck. Hopefully I'll be able to post observations about mine as I get some towing in.

Congrats on the 1 ton. You will love the Duramax/Allison drive train. I think you were right on getting the 1 ton over a 3/4 ton if you plan on getting a fiver in the future due to pin weight limitations.

I am a Ford man but being in the Army and knowing they put Allison's in M1 Abrams Tanks I know they mean business. Enjoy the new Truck.
