New TV - 2013 F150

My wife and I towed our 197 to Whitehorse and back, 6000+ kms, with our 1997 Suburban. With one minor problem, we made it there and back with flying colors. I had my fingers and toes crossed all the way, but the old Sub perked along just fine.

Friday, we drove up to Prince Albert, and on the way, made the mistake of stopping in at Melfort to look at the nice new Ford trucks. We noticed a nice reddish brown 4-door F150. We looked at the specs. Aw jeez. Long wheelbase and box (not 8 ft, but maybe about 6.5'), trailer package, etc. On Saturday, we stopped in and made a deal. We are going back on Tuesday to pick it up.

Very nice indeed! You'll love the way the truck pulls. Rides great empty as well.

Congrats! What is the XTR package? Is it a 5.0 V-8 or 3.5L Ecoboost V-6? I'll take that FX4 next to yours too!

Not sure exactly what the XTR gives you. This one has a 157" WB, tow package, 7300+ GVW, backup camera, brake controller, chrome bumpers & grille, 135 litre fuel tank (35 Cdn gal.), Ecoboost engine, etc. I would much rather have had a 5.0, but there wasn't one on the lot that had the same equipment and color with a 5.0. It also is cell phone and Sirius ready, with a free 6 month subscription, USB and aux in line for the radio. We had two of these trucks at the last RCMP detachment I worked at, and I was impressed with them. Very quiet, easy handling (compared to the el cheapo F250 pigs they had!), and very comfortable.

Actually, I believe you will be VERY happy that you ended up with the ecoboost engine. I absolutely love mine. Has a lot of grunt down low, say under 3000 rpm. I hardly ever have to spin it much harder than that to pull any hill I have encountered. It is a darn impressive engine and gets solid mpg when empty. Enjoy the pickup! I sure love mine!

Congrats on the new TV, you will enjoy it. The Ecoboost does well for pulling and as a daily driver for me. My lease is up in May and will have to buy it or go for the 2014, not sure which I will do.

The low end power of the eco boost engine is really impressive. Congratulations.

I am happy so far with the engine. Definitely has lots of poop and will likely pull the 197 okay. A buddy of mine was talking with a service manager at a Ford dealership in AB, and the guy said the Ecoboost doesn't give much trouble, but the 5.0 does.

For pulling your trailer, the EB is a way better decision than the 5.0. While the 5.0 has some decent payload and towing capacities- it is pretty high strung and likes to rev. An added bonus- altitude won't affect the forced induction EB like it would the 5.0

As to the XTR package- its basically a trim upgrade to the XLT. A few minor cosmetic and luxury bits. Nothing extravagant. Those are nice trucks. I had a '10 before going to my Ram.

New TV - 2013 F150

Glad to see the positive comments on the F150 with ecoboost. Not to threadcap, but I just picked up a 2013 FX4, with the 3.73 rear end, max tow package with the trailering mirrors. It's a sweet ride, can't wait to tow with it, but have to wait for the break-in period and my camper is already napping for the winter.

Re: New TV - 2013 F150

Nice! I like the FX4 trim. They are excellent TV's as far as half tons go. Mine would hold that load as straight as an arrow, the only downfall it had was the 5.4. It was a great, reliable engine, but it ran out of breath in the hills. Giving the Hemi a shot, since I can't afford the mileage of the 6.2L and even though I think the ecoboosts are awesome tech- they're just not my cupof tea

That's sweet! Congratulations. I've been wanting one for a while. Love the new Fords.
