Looks good! As long as you know the weak links of the 6.0 and address them, it’s a pretty good engine. I’ve had 3 different vehicles with the 6.0.
Only 1 “needed” head studs. I chose to bulletproof the others before problems arose.

X2. I've worked on dozens of them over the years. As long as you know what you have and how to address the issues, it can be and is a fine engine. Frankly, I'd feel better with a refined 6.0 than some of the other offerings out there.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Bought a brand new Excursion in '05 with the 6.0 uh oh and never had a problem other than an EGR valve. When I went to trade it, it had 150K on it. Kinda wish I still had it as was a comfortable beast that got 18mpg at 80 mph. A properly bullet proofed 6.0 is a fine engine. Too bad the engineers at Navistar couldn't figure it out first.

We had an 04 Excursion with the 6.0. Best vehicle we ever owned. Pulled a 36’ bumper pull with it and our three kids and 2 big dogs were riding in comfort everywhere we went. Now, kids aren’t so comfy in the back seat of the truck. Still regret selling it but it had to go once we got a fiver.

Next will be getting through this buy back and arbitration without loosing my mind.

After that we will see. My gut says Ram is likely a fine truck but my head is saying go back to GM.

Probably skip camping next season and recover. Use my commuter for some time and then reassess.

Knock on wood I have had good luck with mine, I did have to stud it, but planned on that being a possibility before I bought the truck. 230,000 miles and still going strong, hopefully keep the Illinois rust at bay a couple more years.

Sorry to hear that your new RAM failed you. Stinks.

Well you know that you're always welcome to come back to the Duramax camp!

Sorry to hear of your misgortune. It seems that no matter what we purchase there is always "that one" that ruins it for us.
I had a Ford 4X4 once that a friend of mine liked so much he bought one just like it the next year. He had nothin but problems with his and mine kept on takin a beating till I rolled it one too many times and got rid of it

Kid, wood and midnight thanks for the comments

The truck shakes at highway speeds. Enough to shake my kiddos in the back seat.
Been through 3 sets of tires and 2 sets of wheels and an additional set of tires that FCA said I had to pay for...no fix. NCDS will arbitrate on my behalf which is nice.

Ram isn’t ruined for me but it certainly puts a big damper on things.

Sounds like Death Wobble which I believe happens to some vehicles with solid front axles? From what I read on other forums, the Fords get it too but very random.

That was my original thought until I dove a little deeper.
The truck has a vibration at 60-80mph and it’s pretty terribly. The result is any number of things (theorized): driveshaft, the 3:42 rear end, the wheels, the tires, the resonance in the frame

All of which have been explored, some of which has been able to fix but no solid solution and what’s worse is no acknowledgement by RAM. There is a forum with over 3,000 posts on the subject. Crazy.
