Pulling a 4212 seismic
Can my 3500 GMC diesel pull the new 2016 Jayco Seismic 4212?

Not enough info to give you an answer... Dually or single rw? rear gearing? the best thing is to look on the door frame and see what it says.. and remember go with the max trailer weight NOT the dry empty weight.

It's a Dually. Not sure about rear gearing. I have looked at what the manual says is max towing and the Seismic is over that, however, that's all I see on the road these days pulling these monster toy haulers. We also see trucks like ours pulling trailers loaded down with back hoes and other large, heavy loads. What I want to know is what other RV owners are pulling with.

What year 3500 dually do you have? I have the Seismic 4112 with a GVW of 20,000#, same as yours and a pin weight that will probably be close to 4,000#...You've already bought the 5er, so you may just have to find out. The GM/Chevy D/A combo comes only with 3.73 gearing..nothing wrong with that.
GVWR of my truck is 14,000#, with 4.10 and Aisin tranny/Cummins, I have a GCWR of 37,500#..RAWR of 9750, (AAM rating to 11,500#), all that to give you info what my truck is rated at and that I will be within all it's specs when towing the 4112, so you can compare your specs compare to mine if you want to.
You'll also see MDT's as well as HDH's towing heavier 5er's and TH's. The newer, 3500 dually's, from 2013' up are more capable of towing that weight now than in older model dually's...

Ours is a 2008 6.6 duramax with Allison. The door rating shows 16,000 gcwr. The dry weight of 4212 exceeds that. Just wanted to get other opinions. Wondering if we have any leeway.

I had an 07.5'Chevy 3500 long bed, crew cab,4 wheel drive Dually D/A in LTZ trim and towed a Holiday Rambler 37RLQ Presidential Suite and feel the 39' 9" 5th wheel , loaded to 16,300#, with a pin weight of 3460# put the truck at its limit. I towed in mountains of NC, TN,VA AND WV. It did great...BUT GOING TO A 20,000# 5er with an already dry pin weight of 3400#, possibly going to 4000#? I'd done a little more research before making the TH purchase. I think you will be close if not over your RAWR..but not sure...you have to do the weights. Don't know what "leeway" you're looking for?? I personally wouldn't tow the 4112 with any older 3500 dually,be it Ford, Dodge or GM/ Chevy. TH is too heavy..pushing too many safety factors in my opinion.
You'll be well over your trucks GCWR, and GVWR, ( though most don't worry about GVWR,but I do) .I'd weigh your truck,ready to go camping,get your drive axle weight and subtract that number from your RAWR found on your drivers side door placard..tat will give you an idea of how much pin weight you can put in the bed of your truck.
Don't remember what RAWR is for that truck,but I'd want to know what it is before I towed that 5er with the truck...Safety is always first.
