Rear axle rating question

My rear axle rating on my Ford is 6100lbs [door sticker]. Although I haven't been to the scales yet, on the Diesel Forums a similar trucks actual rear axle weight was 3400lbs. [nothing hooked up]. 6100-3400=2700. What else is removed from the 2700lbs to ensure I don't go over my rear axle rating while hooked up? Tongue weight, cargo, hitch weight? Just another thing I'm not grasping, happening a lot lately. Also, I understand that your rear tires are actually the weakest link in the rear suspension. Any thought appreciated, Terry

That's correct Terry.
If you weight it empty, that's the weight of the frame and bed etc.

Anything you add will add that is behing the front axel will add to the rear axel. Maybe not 1:1 ratio, but for discussion assume that.

Cargo, hitch weight, cargo, passengers, fuel, TT tongue weight, etc

You can look on the side of the tires for weight rating. Multiply by number of tires on axel.

My TT CVWR is 3500lbs. My 13" D rated tires are 1725lbs

Don't overlook the positive side to your hypothetical example: The WDH product weight may remove weight from your 2,700lb delta example.., but once the same WDH product is engaged it returns more weight back to the 2,700lb delta then it originally removed..., thanks to that process we call "weight distribution"
