Reese Straight-Line Trunnion bar hitch

I am considering purchasing this hitch. (Reese Straight-Line MFG. Number 66084) Some of the reviews indicate it takes out all of the sway. Do any of you have experience with this hitch? Is there another one that compares that you can suggest?

I am also interested in ease of setup, maintaining, and adjustments.

I think I understand backing up but want any information on it if possible. Would I just disconnect the bars?

I want to purchase a quality hitch that will last and provide confidence for the DW if she drives a bit. Peace of mind for myself as well. I live in the hill country but want to travel out of state up to the mountains.

My dry tongue weight per the manufacture is 735 pounds. I have not completely loaded the trailer but want to estimate the tongue weight at 950.

You do not have to disconnect the bars to backup.
This is a quality system with built in sway control.
It does take some time, patience, and basic mechanical skills to get it installed and adjusted properly.

Like any WDH, once you get it dialed in it will perform great. The #66084 is the right size for the 25RKS and will cover the possible loaded tongue weight range of a TT with a GVWR of 8,400lbs. I've had my Reese Strait-Line for almost 10 years and it's never let me down.

What I like about the Reese Strait-Line is that if have to change to a different spring bar rating, all you have to do is change-out only the spring bars, you don't have to purchase a totally new WDH set-up. In my case I started with a 1,200lb rating on the spring bars, but a few years ago up-graded to 1,500lb spring bars because my tongue weight started pushing 1,300lbs do to some mods.

With any new WDH, double check all your set-up dimensions before drilling any holes. If you want some extra pairs of JOF membership eyes looking over your shoulder mounting/adjusting your WDH, feel free to come back with any questions. Also, posting pic's of the WDH can be helpful if you run into any adjusting challenges.

Take careful notice at all installation instructions to proper assembly/orientation of associated components (i.e.; chain, hanger brackets, etc.), because I have seen to often where WDH components are assembled and/or mounted improperly resulting in poor towing performance and/or damaged parts.

Not all WDH set-ups will look exactly the same because TV/TT combinations vary. Below is my Reese Dual Cam set-up....., please note that mine is an earlier Reese Dual Cam version so some of the components may differ from the newer Reese Strait-Line version:

I watched the videos on etrailer just to get my bearings.

You'll love the strait-line. Once it's dialed in and the weight's balanced it really takes the sway out.
