Route 23 southbound towards Asheville, NC

Looking for any advise on grades, conditions and overall hauling this stretch of road from 81S to Asheville, NC. My alternate is 77 south towards Charlotte to 40W.

It is very hilly up and down, some short steep grades seems to go on forever with the hills. Can be very foggy at times. Pretty views, couple of nice overlooks. Good way to go for the view but I77 if you want an easier path.

I now see that this has been changed to an interstate and called I-26. It looks like there is a long 6-7% grade uphill leaving TN and into NC which has me thinking my original plan of I-77 is the way to go.
I-77 between I-81 and I-40 is a clear shot with no tunnels or any propane restrictions?

I will be hitting this on a Sunday AM right out the gate.

That stretch of I-77 is clear as can be, there is a hill or two though, I know one long downhill headed south that has some of the runaway truck ramps. But it's a straight shot and nothing much for miles after that.

Good luck!!

I-77 south coming out of Virginia is a long (8 miles) 7% downhill grade called Fancy Gap. Not too big a deal, I've pulled my trailer down that a few times. I-26 from TN to Asheville is actually a nice road. Not too bad as far as climbs/decents. I don't remember if there were any long/steep grades that should worry you though. I've only travelled that road once and that was last June. It is very scenic though.

There are no tunnels on I-77 between I-81 and I-40. Aside from Fancy Gap, should be smooth sailing.

Good luck!
