Silly question? Hitch receiver

my equalizer hitch will reach far enough into the receiver to put the pin through the second hole. Is this preferable? The downside is that it is going to be very difficult to get my locking pin unlocked. The tab for the safety chain is in the way. It seems that the connection would be stronger, but it is a PITA to get back off. I am going to have to file down the backside of the key to get into the lock on the pin.

My question, "Why is there a second set of holes in the receiver or the hitch?"


If using 1 set of holes leaves things inoperable (or difficult to operate) use the easier set.

The other downside is that it moves the trailer closer to the rear of your vehicle. It may reduce how sharply you can turn when maneuvering into a campsite etc. before the TT and TV contact each other.

True. It also makes it where I can't fully open the tailgate without it hitting the jack. I guess I just thought that it would be stronger. The trailer is only 6000, so I'm sure it's fine the other way
