Silverado 1500 6.2 Litre V8

Just curious of anyone owns this truck and what they tow with it. We are considering, but wondering if the bigger engine really makes that much difference in towing capacity. It has the same 3:73 axle as our F-150.

(We have only a super cab F150 and are now worried about back seat room for the dog so looking at going up to full four door truck)

I don't have one, but I can tell that "it depends". You can download an owners manual for the year you are looking for from the Chevy or GMC web site.

What I can tell is that in 2008 and 3:73 gears the 6.0 added 1k# additional capacity. But with the trailering performance package that number jumps another 2k# depending on configuration (crew cab, 4wd, etc), and increases the GCVWR.

I have a 2014 GMC Sierra, so numbers should be the same.

1500 series
4wd crew cab standard box max trailer 11,700 lb gcwr 17,500
4wd crew cab short box. max trailer 11,800 lb gcwr 17,500

The 6.2 adds nothing for the short box truck, but adds 600lbs and 800lbs to the standard box numbers. That's all for 3.73 gears.

If you are considering the 6.2, make sure it has the max tow package, otherwise it will have 3.42 gears.

Thanks Donald. We had to discard this truck for exactly that reason. It only had the 3.42 rear axle. We are now looking at an F150 Supercrew Lariat with the 5.4 Litre V8 and 3:73.

No problem, any other questions ask away.
I went with the 5.3L/Max Tow because I felt the 6.2 didn't add much and it is recommended to use premium fuel for it.
