Tailgate up or down?

Here is the age old question answered AGAIN.. Tests were done over 15 years ago with the same results as the tests today

PS tailgate up means it does not get sandblasted with road debris and therefore rust out sooner.

That partially explains why my mileage tanks in the winter time. I remove my tonneau cover and tailgate to keep them from salt exposure. Couple that with the "winter" blend gas and you have a gas mileage robbing hat trick!
