The past 252,000 kilometres on my 03 Dodge 3500

Feel free to ask questions on my truck. Unlike some forums I have yet to encounter any real rude members on JOF!
Some of you have followed my thread on commercial rv hauling http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...ial-RV-hauling so I figured I throw together a quick recap of my repairs since I started.
November 22, 2012 – December 17, 2013
175, 210 kms - 427, 286 kms = 252, 076 kms
For income purposes my truck accounts for 98% business and 2% personal use. So I have run approx. 247,000 kms and worked approx. 11 of the 13 past months.
I have a detailed account of all maintenance and repairs somewhere but I am to lazy to find it lol……..I will post a simplified version in no particular order. And these prices are approx..
Approx. 15 oil changes x $50 per = $750
Approx. 10 fuel filters x $15 per = $150
Both front wheel bearings approx. =$650
All 4 ball joints, both tie rod ends, sway bar end links plus installation = $275
2 x four wheel alignments = $178
Front rotors = $120
6 Firestone Transforce HTs = $1080
6 Firestone Transforce ATs = $1026
47RE transmission rebuilt =$3400
Rear differential rebuilt = $3900
Rear passenger side rotor, caliper, pads = $150
2 headlights and numerous “wedge” bulbs now replaces with LED = $68
APPS sensor = $165
Rear ABS / wheel speed sensor = $35
All 3 u joints = $60
2 x batteries = $210
Water pump and serpentine belt plus installation = $225
Radiator plus installation = $400

I have question -- not specific to your truck however.

Trailer batteries are "dealer/customer supplied". When you deliever from the factories are you temporarily installing a battery or just running with no power for the emergency trailer brake system?

Never really thought about till another thread discussed how batteries should be included in a TT/5er purchase. So I thought I would ask our resident professional transporter.

I have a small battery with wingnuts that just hangs on the frame rail or I throw in the battery box. A battery is a MUST have item for the breakaway switch.

Nice report. Those Firestone tires look to be a good value for the money.

How about an overview of the 2 different tires you have run? Like any fuel mileage difference, total mileage on the tires, traction etc.

I'm just on my third set now. Have not noticed any significant difference in MPGs.

Started with Goodyear Silent Armour. 140,000 kms, half snowy roads half not. Wore funny even after an alignment. Rotated all 6 every other 40 k. SOme road noise. Good traction in all (I kept the best as a new spare) conditions. all 6 were done )when I replaced them with.....

Firestone TransForce HTs 120,000 kms. 99% summer road conditions. Good traction wet and dry roads. Only rotated fronts side to side for first 80k then swapped the fronts to rear outer position. Very quiet tire on the highway. 4 of them are worth re-using the two that spend the majority on kms on the front are done.

Before my last run I installed 6 new Firestone TransForce ATs. Have 8500 kms on them now. Really good traction in the snow. Not much noisier than the HTs.

You mentioned there is slightly more road noise with the AT’s. Was that something you noticed immediately, or was it something you had to really pay attention to for noticing it? Just trying to get an understanding of the perceived level. I may be getting new tires this summer, and maybe the AT’s would be worth considering over the HT’s which I had before. As always, your insight is very valuable to us.

Personally I barely notice the roadnoise. Cruise set at 65 mph usually and it does not bother me. They are quieter than the goodyear silent armours I ran first.

Amazing thread. Been following your travels in your other thread.

Do you do the work yourself or at various garages or a mix.

If I can do it myself I do.
The tranny, rear diff, radiator, water pump, and lower ball joints were done in various garages. Everything else I did myself either in my garage, my neighbours garage, or in a truck stop parking lot lol.
