Thinking of upgrading to a 2017 Chevy 2500

Does anyone have a 2017 2500?
I am seriously considering trading for one very soon.
I will be going with the Duramax.

My 1500 does okay with our 28BHS today, I am looking to upgrade that in the next year or two.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't driven a 17 but just ordered one for a work truck. If you're looking to do this later on, I would highly recommend you order one like I did, and order it as a 3500HD. The 1 ton upgrade is $1100 and gets you the heavier springs and payload as well as standard 18" wheels, roof marker lights, tow package, bigger brakes and a full floater rear axle vs. a semi floater.

I was always a chevy guy but ended up being given my F350 as a daily driver for work and fell in love with it. That being said, we do business with a lot of car dealers so we have to spread our purchases between Chevy, GMC and Ford, and we were due to buy a Chevy from a particular client. The downfalls of the Chevy (in my mind) are that the interior room and headroom are less than the Ford and in my world, the IFS front suspension doesn't hold up as well over time with a plow. All in all, GM builds great trucks with amazing powertrains, be it a 6.0 or a Duramax.

I would recommend the 2500 and just get the 3500, the new 2500's have a low payload. If you want to upgrade to a bigger 5'er, then new 2500's won't be able to handle the pin. I just traded my '16 2500 for a '16 3500 dually just for that reason

For the difference in cost, I would do the 3500 SRW. More payload if you want ot upgrade later, and the same ride unloaded....

Only has 230 miles on it but so far I'm loving it!

I made them trade out the Denali grill for one off an SLT before I agreed to buy it....that was a little chrome overload for my taste.

Unless something changed since 2015 the rear axle build codes for a 2500, 3500 srw and 3500 drw are exactly the same and only the dually came with larger brakes.

I guess I should clarify- it's different in a gas engine, since the 2500HD gas gets the 10.5" center section. All Duramax trucks and all 3500 trucks get the 11.5". As for the brakes, I'm going off what my salesman told me, and he is a commercial guy who's been there 30+ years, so he knows truck specs well. I would assume the difference there could be related again to the axle difference between gas engine trucks- so the Duramax trucks probably all have the larger brakes.

Don't have a 2017 but I do have a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed 5.7 gas. Tow a 2017 Eagle HT 28.5 RSTS. Tows great. No complaints. Doesn't even feel like you're towing anything.

I'd skip the 2500 and go to a 3500. I once thought a 2500 could do anything a 3500 could do and bought a Dodge 2500 with the Cummins and wanted to be able to upgrade to a 5er in the future. Well guess what? There wasn't enough payload for a reasonable sized 5er. Long story short, the Dodge started falling apart and I got an awesome deal on a 2016 Ford F-350 and haven't been happier.

Not a 2017 but last fall went from a 2011 2500HD to a 2016 3500HD SRW. Really liking the quieter interior that comes from eliminating the old style extended cab suicide doors. With the new doors and "B" Pillar, entry and exit to the rear seat in the double cab is cramped. Include the 5th wheel prep package, you won't be disappointed.

I pulled the trigger this afternoon.
I was already at the top of my budget, so the 3500 was not an option.
The 2500 with Duramax and 4X4 gives us plenty of room to grow..... for now!

Very nice. You'll really enjoy it. FYI, that left rear wheel is missing the cap.

Congrats on a beautiful truck. The 3500 are less than a grand more. Kind of wish I had skipped straight to a 3500. But again nice truck and yours will haul the same weight easier than mine... they upgraded the frames around 2012 or 2013....
