Tires needed for Tow Vehicle
I have a 2012 Ford F-150 5.1L with 3.73 read end. I am waiting on a Jayco 23MBH that should be here mid February. For various reasons I need new tires for my truck. I currently have the tires that came with the truck (passenger tires) and want to upgrade to the Light Truck tire. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Here is what I found so far
P275/65R18 114T Michelin LTX M/S 2 251.00 per tire (Big O road Hazard of 35.00 per tire)
LT 275/65/18/E Big O Big Foot AT ALL 248 per tire (includes Big O road Hazard and lifetime rotate and balance
I also asked Big O about a Firestone Transforce HT tire but it would cost 100.00 more because it would have to be ordered.
I am worried about two things with the Michelin. The recall and the fact that they are 10 ply tires and I am wondering if I need one that big? Does anyone have any suggestions about other things to look at? I do have some time.

I ran a set of Firestone TransForce HTs and found them to be a very good tire. Check around on prices I found mine locally for $180 / tire including installation and balancing.

Not trying to change your mind, but I wore out the passenger tires on my Ram pulling my trailer, but not in a bad way. The tires (Goodyear Wrangler SR-A - all season, all terrain) were rated for 50K miles, and I got 50K from one pair, and 55K out of the others. They did a good job for me, considering I was pulling my trailer over 30K miles with those tires. I replaced them with the identical tires.

Actually that information is what I wanted. I was initially looking for a heavier trailer so that is why I was looking for the higher load range but with a smaller trailer that might not matter

Actually the price I got was from a big o that said they did not have it. I did no task at the other big o. I will ask them about it and look around.

I thought I would go ahead and not be lazy about why I needed new tires. I wanted new tires for a new trailer because I thought I needed them. I took the truck to Big O and they said my tires had about 10,000 more miles on them. However they said they were more concerned with the excessive wear on the outside of the tire and said I would probably need an alignment. They also said not to get one now but get one when I got new tires. So that is why I am looking for new tires but it happens to mostly coincide with a new trailer purchase

Is there a tire dealer in your area that sells Cooper Tires? From my experience with their car and truck tire they are fairly good vis a' vis tread life and not bad on price. If they have a size that fits your truck, they might be worth considering.

I went from stock Goodyear tires on our 1999 Expedition and upgraded to Michelin LTX and had a great experience with them. Such a huge improvement in ride quality, bad weather grip and lower tire volume, they weren't in the same league. Given that Michelin has done the right thing on the latest edition and recalled/replaced them on thier latest version, I would feel good personally about that and not let that go against them, but that is a personal choice.

Michelin makes a good truck tire, unfortunately they're not much for addressing weather cracking of the sidewalls and bead area of their tires. Had to replace 2 LTX/AS2's on my Ram because of deep cracking in the bead area. Dealer inspected them and said sorry, he couldn't do anything as far as adjustment because they were 4 years old. And, I haven't seen a tire as prone to this as bad as Michelin seems to be.

Hi have a 2008 F-150 towing a 29bhs last summer I put a set of. Tokyo Ltd 275/65R18 open country on our truck. They have work out great a bit expensive but I believe worth it. They have a agresive design but do not have that bad road noise . This was a huge concern for my wife who uses this truck for her daily driver. Also it has performed very well in the snow. I hope that this helps. Good luck.
P.S. they ran about. $214.00 per tire and have a 60,000 tread life
