Towing 32 bhds with 1/2 ton

Hello I am planning to tow my 32 bhds with my f-150 5.0 3:73 hd tow package anyone towing 32 bhds with similar setup can give me positiv input ? Please I just want comment from people towing with half ton I already know that a 3/4 ton can do it ! Thanks !!!

32BHDS = Not half ton towable.

If you have the max payload/tow package, you might be legal and within specs of the truck. I know the newer F150's are available with pretty high ratings.

I haven't towed anything that heavy with a 1/2 ton, but my previous experience shows me you can't have too good of a hitch/sway setup when you're bumping against the limits.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I've been where you are and moving up to a 3/4 ton was an amazing improvement in towing ability. Your unit has a GVW of about 5 tons. IMHO way too much for any 1/2 ton truck. Smart=Careful!

I towed a 2009 308RLS with a F150 with 5.4 engine and heavy towing package. The towing experience was pretty good however I was at or a little over the maximum payload capacity for the truck. The payload capacity for the truck was 1332 pounds. Deduct the tongue weight of the trailer and there is not a lot left for passengers and other stuff in the truck. I convinced the DW that we needed a bigger truck so bought a F350 with the 6.7 diesel. The towing experience was significantly improved. The I told the DW that that was too much truck for the trailer (she didn't go for that argument) so we bought a 5th wheel. The towing experience went up several more notches. The actual payload capacity for your truck should be on a sticker found on the driver door or door jam.

Dry weight as delivered to the dealer my 32 BHDS weighs 8131 lb I tow with a Ram 3500 SRW cummins it tows great but it is a heavy pulling trailer. I don't think i would even consider it with a 1/2 ton

I think you are just past the margin of the F150, but should you move forward don't load anything extraneous and definitely take it to a CAT scale or similar.

If you dig around online long enough you'll find that guy that's "been doing it for years with no problem" guy. He's always out there!

My previous truck was a 2500 Suburban, tough truck with TONS of power/torque. However, I wouldn't have wanted to pull our new camper with it. Tongue weight alone is the killer.

You may have plenty of ponies under the hood, but your brakes, tranny and rear end would be what would worry me.

BTW, I have a 2500HD with the 6.0 gasser in it. People were telling me I needed to upgrade trucks with the 32 BHDS !!

Checkout the website bybrv.com. This is a calculator to determine the comatability of your TV and TT. There are others out there (http://changingears.com/rv-sec-calc-...eight-tt.shtml) but this seemed the simplest. I have a 1/2 ton and I don't think I would try towing 32bhds with it. I went for the Whitehawk series - much lighter.

IMHO too much trailer for that truck. 5.0 litre will work real hard especially if you are in hilly area, not to mention mountains. Also, loaded up the hitch weight may exceed #1000A good rule of thumb is not to tow more than 80% of your GCVWR

My old 4.7 litre Tundra worked real hard to pull my loaded 26BH at #5700.

Just tried the changing gears website and found it to be very useful it takes the actual numbers into consideration and I thought worked very well. Great tip, didn't even know something like that was out there. Too bad the RV dealers don't offer providing a service like this to their customers.

pulled the 2005 Jayflight 27BH to CA to MT round trip and the rear -end failed just during and after return. I had a full kit but still lighter than the rig you mention. It's a gamble - Irony here was it was just beyond warranty. New pinion installed for $995. Could be worse.

I know somebody who towed a 32BHDS with a 2014 Double-Cab 4x4 V6 half ton pickup. He towed it a total of 140 miles. One trip was 50 miles, the others were shorter. The 80 gallon fresh water was full each time. He towed alone. The truck had a built in brake controller. It was here in Michigan, with the largest hill a freeway overpass. The trailer has close to 1300 lbs tongue weight. The truck had payload of 1600.

It is doable under the correct scenario.

I prefer my 2500HD. I think that the 6.0 with 6sp is great combo for pulling. I had a 8.1 with 4sp, and 4.10 rear axle that was fantastic. However, I get 30-35% better fuel economy with new truck for the other 12k miles a year.

I tow a 314 eagle with a 12 chevy CC 1500. We don't travel with water, pack light and typically drive less than 2hrs in Michigan. Would a bigger truck be better? Yes. My wife never towed anything until last spring, by June she was making that 2hr drive by herself. Gas up, hook up, point a to point b, don't be in a hurry, lock it in 4th gear, cruise at 59 and run it.

The 32 BHDS gross 9,975 hitch 870. The F150 5.0 HDT RC 10,000, SC 9,600 at 15,300 GCWR, SCR 9,400 at 14,900 GCRW (4x2) look in driver door frame, lower the GCRW and 4x4 lower the trailer weight (ford.com). There is a difference between HD Payload Package and Max Trailer Tow Package, it's best to go to Ford.com and look up F150 Tech Specs. Max payload (people and stuff in the truck bed) have a direct bearing on what weight you can put on the ball safely.

I have a 5.0L 2013 F150 screw with tow package and I think the max payload weight is around 7500
I tow a 26BH with a gross weight of 5000 plus payload. I have airbags installed plus a sway hitch. Finding no problems at all towing.
I would not think it is safe to tow something as heavy as you are proposing. It would simply be too dangerous.
Think of your family. It is not worth it.
Consider getting a 3/4 ton or 1 ton for your trailer.
