Most recent trip with mixed climbing mountains and stop and go traffic doing 65 with CC set 60% of the time I achieved 11.5 MPG. This was on my 03 6.0 F350 Dually towing 2011 365 BHS at about 13,750#.

I do have 4" turbo back exhaust with an edge tuner set at towing level 3.Cat is still intact. Running 1900 on avg but spikes to 2900 climbing those steep grades. Those two mods are definitely noticeable in fuel consumption and power increases. Figure payback is about 10,000 miles based on current price of fuel.

I spent the extra $750 and got the 3.5 liter v-6 in my new truck. 365 hp and 420 ft/lb torque. Tows like a small diesel and gets 17.5mpg in the city unloaded. The truck is rated to tow 11,300 lbs...probably a bit high for a half ton truck. I'd feel more comfortable keeping it below 8500 though.

As much fun as they are, I couldn't justify a 3/4 ton diesel for my application especially as the diesel is around $6k more.
