Towing your Jayflight 28BHS
I am picking up my 2011 28 BHS in the morning. My TV is a 2005 screw F150 5.4 GVWR 7200 and a tow rating of 8700 lbs. What are you towing your 28 BHS with?

What TV do you have in mind to replace the Envoy?

Curently towing with a Gmc Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2 awd. Just got back from a trip that took us from West Texas up through New Mexico to just north of Pagosa Springs Co. I can tell you that after fighting up some of the hills with the 6.2 gasser i'm looking to upgrade to a deisel brfore our big trip next summer.

Towing our 27BH with Yukon XL Denali also.
Redraider, does your transmission temp and sometimes coolant temp start climbing pretty high while towing?

on this last trip through New Mexico, my trans temp would hang around the 200º mark, on some of the long uphill pulls it got over 240º. my coolant temp would rise up to about 220º then drop down to its normal temp. i think im going to install a larger trans cooler before my next trip though and see how that does.

Hey Crabman,
This is what we're thinking It's a done deal and the Envoy has been relieved of duty.

I tow my 03 29'BH with a 2004 Chevy Avalanche. 3.73 gears and LSD. It pulls ok, however I will be tweaking it a bit to pull even better. An F150 with a 5.4 is going to pull that trailer just fine.

I tow a 31' RKS Jayco Jay Flight G2 with my 06 Ford Expedition, 5.4 and it's great until I get to the mountains,---then it really has to work. Next truck will be a diesel.

We also have an 05 Expedition as a back up. It pulls the 29' BH we have much easier than the Avalanche.

had a 99 k1500 Suburban 5.7L, had problems on hills and seemed a little light for the job. Upgraded to a 2007 K2500 Yukon XL 6.0L. MPG sucks when towing, only getting about 8mpg!

You can't really expect much for mileage when towing. The 327 (5.3) GM motor will do ok when pulling up a hill if you are in 3 and in Tow/Haul mode. To further help it, you can add a corvette servo to your transmission ($20) and strengthen the shifts. A good transmission cooler (~$65) and you will be even better. I'm doing those things plus getting the truck tuned to remove GM's torque management controls and supposedly it will be a different vehicle. Edit: Another thing is 4x4. It makes your vehicle heavier and will actually decrease the towing capacity as well.
The Ford 5.4 motor is much more stout than the 5.3 GM (in my opinion) but both should be able to tow a 28' BH with minimal issues. I got about 9MPG with my Avalanche on our last trip and we only crossed one large hill. The rest was flat.
