I really doubt that you'll see temps that high. Let us know how things go though! MOST IMPORTANT, don't obsess over this, just have fun. I pretty much blew a day and half last Sept worrying about my truck...

I have a 2012 burb w/ towing package and tow a 28BHBE. We went down to Disney on I95 last summer. Outside temps running 103 and trans temp ran 213. I did have trains fluid changed just for trip cause I knew it would be getting a workout. I've learned that it runs about 100-110 about outside temps. That's normal for me.

I was also told this by dealership and that 270F is the point to start being concerned. I had a 2008 GMC 1500 5.3 and 3.73 at the time. I saw 235/240 in the Beartooth mountains while towing up grade.

I echo much of what has been said towing my 40 foot fifth wheel at outside temperatures above 90 the transmission would run about 100 degrees hotter. City driving would send the temp to 238 for short periods. In the mountains I would back speed off when I was in the 134 to 138 range. my overall transmission temperatures decreased after installing a Banks Speed Brake.

Just returned from 4,500 mile trip out west. Tran temp on 2014 Duramax/Allison reached 198 in mountains of Colorado with outside temps of 82-85. Reading the manual it states normal temps should be less than 200. I backed off once it reached 198 and temps dropped back down under 180 within 5 miles.

80 degrees outside yesterday flat hauling and tranny temp gauge showing 167. Highest I have seen with the Aisin is 180 going uphill in the mountains in the BC interior.

The newer trannys seem to run hotter by design. The fluid is better and tolerates more heat, and I think the overall efficiency of the vehicle goes up as the fluid temps do due to less resistance in the driveline.

My truck usually gives me around 90*C when driving unloaded in the summer, and about 95*C when towing. I've had it up to 102*C once or twice when pulling steep hills slowly but even that doesn't concern me. I have also heard that 110*C or 230*F is when you should start watching things closely.

Even at 102*C (digital readout) the analog gauge didn't move a hair from the normal middle position.
