TT emergency brake switch

While working on the front tongue of my TT, I snagged the emergency brake cable that was woven thru the safety chain and pulled the plastic plug out of the switch box. I reinserted the plug carefully into the box and it seemed to lock in place. Is this the way to reset the switch or do I need to do something else. Don't want to head out on a trip later this season and have the TT brakes locked up.

Really surprised that in decades of towing, this is the first time I've managed to do this. I am capable of tripping over or snagging just about anything. Thanks for the quick response.

Keep in mind when this switch has been pulled out of its holder the brake magnets on the trailer are being applied 12VDC from your trailer battery. Each electric brake will pull around 3AMPS DC current when 12V is applied. A single axle will draw around 6AMPS DC Current. A double axle setup will pull around 12AMPS DC current.

This should not be left ON for a too long of period in this mode as it may run down your 12VDC battery pretty quick and may do damage to the electric brake modules.

The breakaway switch purpose is too immediately apply full trailer electric brakes in the event your trailer becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle while being towed.

This switch is a DOT requirement and therefore must be in working functional order when going down the public highways...

In other words when your trailer is being towed on public highways you must have the emergency break-away cable hooked to the tow vehicle and you also must have a working 12VDC battery on-board the trailer and functional brakes to meet DOT requirements.

When the safety plug is pulled out of the box, the brakes are being applied and if you go back to the axle and get really close you can hear a humming sound coming from the brake drum. Put the plug back in and go back and listen again and there should be no sound. That's a quick and easy way to verify the brakes have indeed let go.
