WDH round bars and tongue weight
HI guys, newbie quick question for you
I am looking at upgrading my TT and the tongue weight on the new TT is 846lbs tongue weight and the TT is 7000lbs loaded. I am pulling this with a Suburban.
My current Husky WDH hitch round bars can only handle 400-600lb tongue weight. So my issue is the new tongue weight not the TT weight.
Naturally we need to upgrade.
I can get 501 - 800lb tongue weight and 8000lb trailer round bars
or 800lb to 1200lb tongue weight and 12,000lb trailer round bars
I am trying to pick these round bars up used and I found a super deal for a 501 - 800lb tongue weight. Can I squeak through and use the 501 - 800lb round bars or because of extra 46lbs tongue weight on the new trailer do I have to buy the 800lb to 1200lb.

Is that dry tongue weight? If so, there's no way you're squeaking in with the smaller bars. Even so, I would probably go with the bigger bars anyway. I'm currently using a set at the limits and it's not a great feeling...

I am not sure. It says 831lbs hitch weight. This is way too confusing for me. Do I have to upgrade the arms and something else or will just the arms do. I can upgrade the arms to 1000lbs..found another deal

the sticker on the trailer - generally found on the street side front corner - will list the max GVW of the trailer. base your hitch and spring bar set up on that number. Keep in mind that the TT tongue weight is about 12% of TT GVW
I would upgrade the arms to 1000# bars.

You can be over, but you definitely don't want to be under. I agree, 12% of max trailer weight is a good number to use.
Whether you can just trade out the bars depends on your specific hitch. I would contact the manufacturer to see if it is possible, or check out their website.

That tongue weight you mention is the unloaded weight. It doesn't even include the battery! Loading it up with camping stuff will add another 100-300 lbs. - especially if it has front under-bed storage, and/or front pass-thru storage.
Why put yourself or your family at risk for a few bucks? Go with the 1000# bars.

The round bar spring bars are not interchangeable. If you want interchangeable spring bars you will have to go with a "Trunnion" style spring bar WDH (Weight Distribution Hitch).
You mentioned that "TT is 7,000lbs loaded" in an earlier post, not sure where this weight came from.
Not knowing your loading habits, worst case scenario would be to figure the "loaded" tongue weight based on a 13% to 15% range of the TT's specified GVWR...., thus the WDH should be rated accordingly.
Would be helpful if you could state TT brand/year/model.

Can your Suburban handle 1000 lbs TW plus passengers and any cargo being hauled in the vehicle?
Also, depending on year of the Suburban, the receiver may not be up to the task -- check that too.

Just a quick question after having found this thread....I'm getting ready to change out my spring bars on my EazLift hitch from 1000# to 1400# due to having a loaded tongue weight of approx. 1200# according to my weight scale weighings....have ordered and received them....just haven't tried them yet....wild thought that came to mind...can you get it too stiff with the heavier bars??...any thoughts?

You will be fine using the 1,400lb rated bars for a loaded tongue weight of 1,200lbs. What's important is adjusting the WDH for proper weight distribution, thus achieving optimum results from the WDH.
I have 1,500lb rated trunnion bars for my 1,300lb loaded tongue weight, works just fine.
