Sway bars on top of the battery boxes (I have 2) and the hitch stays in the truck unless we're in one place for more then a few days.

While camping, the bars, are placed on the tongue behind the lp tanks. The hitch usually I leave it on the tv. With a solo cup over the ball, to keep the grease clean and off of clothing.

Have an Andersen, no bars! I hook the plate/chain to tongue so it won't lay in the mud.

WDH stays attached in the truck's receiver, and the bars go across the trailer A-frame, behind the propane tanks.

I love the idea, but now for an off topic question. (My apologies). The batteries appear to be a lead acid water additive type. Are there holes in the top of the lid of the aluminum box to allow the gases to vent? Do you think the life of the box will be shortened from said gases venting?

There are vent holes in the top and rear of the box with plastic mesh screen over them to keep bugs etc out. This box has been on the trailer since Oct 2013 and still looks brand new. I do use baking soda and water to flush everything out when I check the acid levels in case of any spills. There are drain holes in the bottom.

Our camping place is private/secure enough. The hitch parts are placed on the ground, under the front of the TT where they won't get rained on.

Non-camping, the hitch parts are secured in my barn/shop.

storage

I built a storage area in the front driver's side compartment of my TT. Slide the tube found in a paper towel roll over each end to keep the grease from rubbing off. Place the Sway control bar on top of them. A shelf was placed above this area to allow for a floor for the leveling blocks to sit. Also added another area for the electrical adapter underneath the shelf and adjacent to the WDH arms. Works great for me. Secures them from wandering eyes and keeps them out of the weather when not in use.

True, but we can also get a ticket for speeding or failing to signal, both of which we all do from time to time and rarely get a ticket for. I expect that hitch tickets are even more rare, and IIRC the law says "if not in use" which I would interpret to mean I'm okay while camping.

Mine is off when not actively camping, but I leave it on while resident at a campground (and I have the permit to prove it).

I see trucks all the time where the balls have so much rust you know they haven't been used in decades. (talking about the hitch here, not the driver; although that might fit too). I doubt they ever get tickets.

Like most here, I also lay my bars across the A-frame behind the propane tanks. In the winter my WD hitch head stays stored in the camper (I have a regular WB hitch in the truck for other uses), and in the summer it sits on the garage floor ready to go.

My hitch 'parts' just go in the back of the truck right next the tailgate. I like keeping all of the hitch related stuff in or on the truck at all times. Personal preference I guess.

No such hitch laws here in Manitoba, but many years ago when I was new to RVing I left the hitch in all summer. In the fall after the trailer was put away, I regretted that decision. Enough rain had made its way in between the drawbar and the receiver to create just enough rust that I had a heck of a time getting it out. Now, whenever I'm not towing (or at a campground), the drawbar gets removed.

As for the weight distribution bars, I used to just throw them on the ground under the A-frame, until I started greasing the ends that go into the drawbar. I stopped doing that when the grease picked up too much dirt. Now I do what I can to keep them out of the dirt.

I like this! How do you fasten it to the frame?

WDH (all of its parts) has its own place on the bottom shelf of a large rolling cart in the garage. The top shelf is for the battery, the charger, and battery accoutrements.

In camp, we have been storing the bars against the frame behind the tanks. However, I really like that PVC storage idea, as long as the PVC is easily removed for cleaning and repairs. We leave the hitch in the receiver when we are in camp.
