I remeasured the weight with the trailer empty, i.e. without the stuff we are packing for camping (cloths, food, etc.):

- 600 lbs at the end of the stinger
- 820 lbs under the jack

In fact the WD bars were not completely loose, but they were easy to move to the sides, so most likely some of the weight is transferred back to the axles, but I do not expect a lot.

Can we assume the WDH wasn't removed from the TT coupler and influenced the 820lb reading?

The weight distribution bars here cannot effect the weight of the scale when you are not attached to the truck (it can induce a stress in the frame only). You can estimate using a beam with the wheel a fixed point and jack/stinger as roller.

Really basic back of the envelope using a beam bending diagram (assuming the pro pride weighs ~200 lbs) you would expect ~150lbs of difference between the readings at the jack and stinger.

So you number does seam to be about correct.

Here is a better image of the numbers and how they change based on measurement location. Also, for the last one, I put on 200lbs to simulate a generator/bikes attached to the bumper.

This better calculation shows a difference of 227lbs which is the same as your measurement.

I assumed a 25' box with 5500lbs disturbed evenly.
I assumed 200lbs for the ProPride disturbed over 4'

It looks like 200lbs on the bumper reduces the stinger by ~60 lbs (~115 lbs at jack)

Thanks, I am jealous that people can calculate such things.

In may case the box is 28', weight approx. 6,600 lbs, bumper to tongue is 32'9'' plus ProPride which adds approx. 3'. I think that PP is 180 lbs.

Have you/did you check to see if the real tongue weight on a CAT scale matched the weight under the jack more closely or if it matched the weight under the stinger more closely? Thanks for posting - I'm trying to figure out exactly what a propride will do to my tongue weight.

I went to CAT scale last week. My TW was 900 lbs, distributed 180 lbs to trailer and 100 to front axle.

Measurement with Sherline scale showing 820 lbs under the stinger was accurate. This was without the stuff we are taking to campground. I had a few bags packed in front of the trailer (in bedroom). Next time I will pack them over the axles to decrease the TW to 800-850 lbs.

Very interesting post. I did the same measurement before we went out on the last trip of the season. I am using Curt True Track WDH, under the jack was 1000# and under the stringer was 810#. Everything was step up exactly like how it attached to the TV. Only one 30# propane tank was full, had battery and about 300# on rear of bumper bike rack. When I put the scale under the coupler without WDH is 900#.
