What Are Your RPM's?

At 55 to 60 mph with the o/d off (like the owners manual says), I am showing any where from 2500 to 2800 rpm on a flat. How about you all?

My 6.0L/4.10, loaded at 14,700lbs, at 60 MPH in 3rd gear will turn 2,700 RPM. I can save about 500 RPM and at least 10 degrees in tranny temp if conditions allow me to tow in "D" (overdrive).

Our liberty in "tow/haul" at 60mph is about 2800. Sometimes I can take it out of that mode and drop it down around 2400.

With a gross of 21,800 an towing at 55 mph my rpm is 1500. I got 12.8 mpg on my last 250 mile trip. This is consistent with other trips (hand calculated).

Interesting....., I use Tow/Haul mode when towing with my GM TV, but when in use it only raises my shift point RPM's, not my high end positioned drive gear RPM (3rd or "D"). The end RPM remains the same Tow/Haul on or off when positioned in 3rd or "D".

At 60 mph in 3rd gear, rpm's about 2200. Seldom will it hold overdrive for long, but when it does, then about 1800 rpm at 60 mph. With this GM, tow-haul mode only raises the rpm shift points.

I've been told that for the best fuel economy and performance, your rpm at highway speed should be at the rpm where your engine has peak torque. Gas and Diesel have different torque curves, with gas being a more sharp peak in the curve, at a little higher rpm. For my gas engine, peak torque is at 2000 rpm. So, with me running about 2200 rpm at 60 mph, I guess that would be about right. I find I get 10.9 mpg -USA Gallon, towing the 5,000 lb 22FB trailer, hand calculated.
