Duramax Turbo Brake Mod

For the record I am VERY easy on brakes. My 2006 Sierra has original brakes on all 4 wheels and the clock says 192,000 miles. I'm a big believer in grade braking with the Allison and use it all the time even unloaded.

Hi Ed, (Slight hijack here )
Looks like we have similar trucks. I'm also quite impressed with these brakes but I ran across the "Turbo Brake" mod for our trucks, installed it and I am quite impressed with the results. Have you heard of it?
The mod takes advantage of the variable-vane turbo and some unused programming that is intended for the medium-duty trucks (Top Kick & Kodiak of the day).
The mod is actually quite simple and cheap! Once you've sourced the few parts the install can be done in about an hour
Their is a lot of 'noise' in this following thread but the initial info from the OP is solid.
If interested PM me and I'll share my install with you.

I am so easy on brakes evidenced by my brakes are totally original after 10 years, I have zero interest in any modification. When the time comes I will just replace the rotors and pads with factory OEM stuff.

I certainly understand considering the stout brakes that we have. This mod does add, effectively, an exhaust brake that the newer trucks have. I also find that it makes driving down grades much more confident and stress free.
Cheers!

Dented the tailgate . Backed into the 5th wheel kingpin, got too close and put a 2” wide dimple at the top of the tailgate.

Just finished installing the steering gearbox stabilizer. I’ll see if there’s any noticeable difference when I drive home.

Edit: I did pucker a bit while doing the install! One of the bolts snapped in half that held the sway bar and bracket in place. I had to drill out the bolt and use one of those biting bits to back it out. Must have been a defective bolt...because the were grade 8.

Replaced the o-ring gaskets on the marker lights on the front cap. Many folks have noticed water droplets exiting the switches under the cap by the pin box. This is where the water is getting in. Mine were really cracked and decaying. They were leaving black streaks down the trailer.
Old cracked ones next to new one
I drenched the new ones in 303 before installing
I think I may use some sealant around the outside as well

I actually got them from Tractor supply. It was a 6 pack of clear led lights with rubber o rings and chrome trim rings. They were on clearance for $2 so I figured I could make use of the lights somewhere else and use the o rings for the front. I need to get some more for the rear cap lights as well
Here is what I got but mine were clear not amber
