We have a studded set of Duratracs on our 04.5 Ram plow truck. Excellent traction tire and great durability.

Well, crap...

My truck performed flawlessly this past weekend for our trip to TMS. I got the camper back home yesterday and the truck died in the driveway. After piddling around with it off and on all day, I finally decided I must have a fuel pump issue.

In this morning's nice cool air, the truck started and ran. I was able to drive the truck to the dealership and save the tow. The service department has already confirmed low fuel pressure. I just didn't want to deal with this job, so they are doing it. My wife is the comptroller for the dealership, so we'll get a bit of a discount.

I guess after 22 years and 160,000 miles, that fuel pump had to finally give up.

Unexpected situations like this are the reason I try to always have some cash stashed back.

ETA: I really am thankful the truck completed the trip and died at home. My only real inconvenience is that I was not able to get the camper parked in the correct spot. It's in the middle of my driveway. I guess I'll get all that situated this weekend when the hauler is back home.

Died in the driveway, were able to drive it into the dealership where you get the family discount. Sounds like it just might be time to buy that lottery ticket!

What truck/motor is it?

Hope that it's quick & simple.

Cheers,

Jeff

'96 Chevy crew cab dually, vortec 454.

And the news gets even better. The lead mechanic there told me that GM changed the pump/sender assemblies in '98. The pre-'98 assemblies are the good ones. Since my gas gauge works fine, all I need is the pump itself, which is about 80 bucks. That plus a couple hundred in labor should be all this costs.

The truck is ready, and the total bill is $311.xx, almost exactly what was quoted.

Feeling good.

Nothing today but back in July installed a Transfer Flow 50 gallon diesel tank behind the cab and tool box in the bed just behind the tailgate. The second tank is the best thing I have done. Comes in handy in the western states where fuel stops are far apart and makes traveling a lot easier by not having to fuel up so often.

Installed a new right taillight since someone cracked it when unloading mama's kayak! Found OEM Mopar from Geno's Garage for a great price. Also installed the winter front cover that came with the cold weather package. Truck warms up fairly quick, but this should help as the temps drop.

We replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold studs and gasket. We developed the infamous 5.7 hemi exhaust leak when the rear stud broke (common problem/flaw with the rear stud). DW and I did the job in the garage for $49. It took about 2.5 hours. We had to drill the stud and use an "easy-out" to extract it. That was the most time consuming and tenuous part of the repair. Feels good to save dough!

She's back to running nice and smmmoooth!

Put new marker lights on the dually fenders. One had went MIA (fallen out?) a few weeks back so took the opportunity to upgrade them all to LED. Major difference / improvement.

Now I'm pondering LED tailgate marker lights to match. And LED cab lights. And LED _____ (fill in the blank).

Fuel pump. Damn, diesels are expensive to repair! Or buy, or maintain, etc.

I had my review mirror glued back to the windshield. It fell off a couple of days ago.

Got her some new sneakers!!

Went from the OEM Firestone Transforce HT to a Michelin LTX A/T2. The Firestones lasted me about 32K miles. Lots of towing, and lots of off-road in rocky terrain carrying loads. They were all chipped to hell and tread depth was approaching the wear indicators, so it was time. VERY much looking forward to a few years of good service from the Michelins, and hopefully they won't chip as bad at the deer lease.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck with the LTX A/T2. Unfortunately, I tried 3 separate sets of them in 265/70/17 load range E on my Rams and had very poor results. I am on gravel and dirt access roads daily and I found that the Michelin tires could not hold up in that environment. Chunks coming out of the tread, complete sidewall failure at one point, etc.

Anyway, I switched over to Firestone Destinations and Goodyear Duratracs and have had much better luck on those rough roads.

Again, not meaning to scare you, but my experience on those types of roads have not been positive.

The Michelin AT/2's on my previous truck that I traded in 3 weeks ago still looked pretty good at 59K. Of course, those were mostly highway miles.
