What is your Payload?

I am just curious about the actual payload of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

I moved up to a 2015 F250 last summer as our F150 payload wasn't cutting it.
Our F250 is a crew cab short box with the 6.2L gas engine and has a payload of 2749lbs. I am looking for the door jamb number not a number from a brochure for your model truck. When we bought our truck the salesman didn't even know that the brochure number wasn't accurate and kept quoting that to me. I kept trying to explain to him that it wasn't.

One of the trucks I test drove was a F350 Lariat with the diesel and the payload was just over 2000lbs I think. I mentioned this to him and he argued about it and I finally said go out to your lot and look! He came back a bit sheepish. I was really surprised it was that low myself.

What is the payload of your diesel 250/2500? And any other 250/2500 or 350/3500 trucks? Please give specs if they aren't in your sig.

Thanks

My 04 2500 payload is 3474lbs on the sticker

My 04 1500 work truck is 1454 lbs. Quite a difference.

I'm not sure how you could have looked at an F350 with a roughly 2000 payload. That would be correct probably for a F250 with a 6.7. I have a F350 SRW and its in the neighborhood of 3300 lbs. I'm not home so I can go double check the sticker but I remember it being in that range. Are you sure you are looking at the max payload numbers and not axle pin weight or something else?

2013 F350 crew cab with diesel- payload is 3525 lbs. I think you will find that payload varies with style (crew cab, etc.), wheel base, and engine as well as the family (F150, etc.).

From the Yellow sticker:
Front GAWR - 5000#
Rear GAWR - 6730#

From the CAT Scale:
Steer - 4580#
Rear - 3360#

So my rear axle cargo is: 3370#

The CAT Scale is your friend.

I should have added my scale weights as well.

Front axle = 4166lbs
Rear axle = 3064lbs

7230lbs empty and 9900 GVW rating = 2670 actual payload capacity
My brochure number is 3040 and I only have an XLT! I lost ~300lbs with a few options. Anyone know the difference in weight between the 6.7L diesel and the 6.2L gas engine?

As for the F350 with the low payload that I test drove...
The brochure numbers range from 1361kgs up to 2014kgs for a SRW crew cab.
That is 3000lbs up to 4440lbs. Add in all the Lariat options and a diesel to a low GVW rating vehicle and you could be in the low 2k lbs. It must have been a 9900 or 10k lbs GVW vehicle.

Thanks for the replies so far. Keep them coming!

Cheers

The diesel weighs around 1100lbs wet. I can't find a weight on the gas engine.
600-650lbs ??? based on other big v8's

The body style and options will all affect the payload (the fancier the truck, the lower the payload). 4x4 also consumes payload I think.

I do not know where this number came from but I'm thinking my payload is 2900#. It's a stripped 02 F250 XL, supercab, V10, 2WD.

Payload is typically the limiting factor

My "sticker" payload is 2997 on a 2013 F250 6.2 gas, supercab, shortbed.

Someone asked why one would care. The reason is that payload is often the limiting factor if you are pulling a FW---not the weight of the FW but the weight of the kingpin. The payloads for the 2013 Fords F250's (gas) ranged from 2229 to 3773 (from the brochure) based on configuration. These were stated under the assumption of a 150 lb. person at each seating position. Not surprisingly, the 4X2 regular cab had the highest.

For F250's with the 6.7 diesel, under the same assumptions, the payloads ranged from 1499 to 3033. The extra weight of the engine is the reason for the significant drop in payload with the diesels.

All of the brochure listings are for minimum weights and are typically larger than the actual limit found on the sticker.
