I would agree, I have a 29BHDS which wont be as heavy, and it was over RAWR loaded fairly light, part of the reason I traded for a 2500. I had the max-tow package/3.73 as well, but DIDN'T have the heavy duty payload. Therefore I think it was probably the same if not a very similar rear axle.

My ford also had a little of a surprisingly low tongue weight restriction that may be a problem if its a factory hitch, I think it was in the 1200lb area. Look at the white sticker on the hitch itself, just under the bumper. The receiver actually was lower than my towbar I remember. I was over if I filled tanks so I never did till I got to the campground. I doubt it will break, but again, your over.

My suggestion to the OP would be to look at various models search for Cat Scale results on this forum, there are many of them, that should give a really good idea on accurate tongue weight for various models. Based on specs alone, Something in the 26,27 foot floor plan range will probably be OK, 28BHS might be pushing it without maxtow/HD payload, but thats a guess.

The rear axle on my '13 EB MaxTow is rated to 4050lbs which is the highest available until you get into the HD payload package which is a different axle all together (7 lugs).

My hitch is rated to 1150lbs, and considering the truck is rated to tow 11,100lbs (which means absolutely nothing) it kind of makes sense? 10%? Maybe in Ford's eyes, but not mine!

The 28BHS is a good match for my truck but I stand firm in saying I wouldn't go any larger with a half ton. 32TSBH is most certainly out of the question.

I guess thats another one scratched off my list. Been inquiring about a new '' light weight '' TT by Grand Design in the Imagine 3159 BH model. Wont be out until April but specs are 750 TW and 7400lbs dry 35ft in length. I may also consider its smaller brother the Imagine 2800bh, 580TW and 5685 lbs dry and 32 FT in length. So basically from what I've gathered, the biggest trailer I could get would be the Jayco Jayflight 28bhbe.

Check the decal on the side of the trailer. It should tell you what the weight is from the factory for that particular unit. The Imagine 2800bh is a nice unit, we almost went with that one but opted for the White Hawk 28bh. The Imagine is 32' to the tongue with a 28' box. The Jayco was about $6000 less. Our TT is 5918# from the factory and towed with the same truck you have. I don't tow with water unless I'm going local but even then, no issues. I would steer clear of the Imagine 3159 though (weight)

How many bunks do you need? If you only need two you might want to look at the JayFlight 23MBH. I have two kids and there is plenty of room inside. I used to tow it with a 2014 F150 Ecoboost and power wise it wasn't a problem at all. I was however always within 300 lbs of my RAWR. I did switch to a Ram 2500 but it wasn't because of towing problems.

I have a 2012 with MaxTow package, EcoBoost, SuperCrew cab. Tow a Whitehawk 28DSBH and it's a good combination.

We went to check out the 3150 that finally arrived at the dealership near us, I must say I was very disappointed ! Although the trailer is over 35ft in length, the interior space seemed to be very small? I didn't find the fit and finish of this trailer to be all that good also? I'm not sure what it is about the interior but it was not what I was expecting... I also looked at the 2800bh, we did find this model to have a more open concept space vs the 3150 but still wasn't that impressed with the over all quality and fit and finish with these models, Was very disappointed.. Looked at the Jayco White Hawks, in comparison to the imagine line, I thought the jayco's had much nicer interior and better build quality over all IMO. Again very disappointed as I have been waiting to see this 3150 model for some time only to be the least bit impressed....

Have you looked at the Starcrafts? Part of the Jayco family.

I am curious, are you certain you want a TT 32-35 ft in length behind a half ton? All weights and ratings aside, sometimes you have to just stand back and eyeball it and say "that ain't right".

Just one man's opinion, but a trailer that size no matter the weight will leave any half ton completely outmatched. It will be driving, not you. I know some people do it, but I'd bet those that do won't openly admit that they bit off more than they could chew.

Trading my TV is not an option as we have only had it for 3 months..

Something you have to keep in mind about the internet is that the internet is FULL of people who have never done anything and will tell you it doesn't work. And then you'll notice on the fringes there are people that will tell you that they actually did that thing that is supposed to be impossible and it turned out fine for them. But then they will be shouted down by the people that say it's impossible. It seems like what you see everywhere regarding trailer towing weights is that everyone disregards a 150 without actually realizing that the new limits have crept up to nearly what a 250 can tow. My 2016 can tow 11700 for instance. Tongue max is 1220# but then the step up to a 250 is only 1250#. Big deal.

It seems like so much of the pushback against 1/2 tons is based on outdated understanding of how far they have come in the last few years.

That said, just watch your numbers and you should be fine.

What exactly do you mean by tongue max?

Your right about the 150/1500 trucks, most say you need a 250/2500 but yet I see and know people who are pulling big trailers with no issues with there 1/2 ton. Just have to be cautions, regardless if its a 1/2 or 3/4 truck. When pulling a trailer, its not like your going to the races anyway. I'm sure slow and easy, most 1/2 tons are fine pulling trailers.

Sorry, I worded that poorly. I meant "max tongue load"

A new F150 is built just as capable as a F250 from not very long ago.

A 2016 F150's max rating can go to 12,200 max carrying capacity with a weight distributing hitch. A F250 is 12,500 for anything but the 6.7L which is 14,000 properly equipped. That's a significant issue but not one that will suddenly propel you to pull the space shuttle vs. only being able to pull a tiny 20ft. travel trailer.

So many variables go into what your pickup will be capable of. If you are going to live in it year round and haul it up Mt. Everest then your considerations are probably different than someone who wants to take it 200 miles to the coast three times a year.

I've got a related question. Obviously for those ratings they've just figured the tongue rating at 10% of the overall tow rating. Does anyone know why they figure it that way? Surely if you put 1,450lbs of tongue weight on that 6.7L F250 your tongue isn't going to break off.

Don't get me wrong, I am usually a big proponent of half ton towing. If I didn't need my 2500 for the GVWR to haul the family and trailer I would still be towing with my half ton- I loved it.

I am merely wondering if the half ton doesn't have enough weight on the rear end to control a huge sail like that under normal conditions. I have towed trailers that size a couple times with my half tons to help friends move theirs and I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to on a regular basis. Just reading other users experiences it seems that I see more concerns from them when they get up into that 30 plus foot length.

Different hitch?

We have the 2015 Sport 4 x 4 super crew with maximum towing package, tow a Jayco Eagle 306RKDS. First trip about 200 mi this weekend. In wind it was a little scary. Thinking we need a different hitch. Using a Husky Centerline w/sway control bars and also have sway command on the trailer. Other hitches? Weights are all well within range. We weighed it. Also could be that this size is new to us and we will get used to it.

That's crazy that it's only a 30# dif! My gm is 300# more tongue weight then equivalent 1500 but that's not the difference I cared about. It's the 1000+ lbs of extra payload that I wanted. Not sure what the payload is on the fords but my tongue weight on my 29qbs put me at my max with my 1500 even before I put my family and stuff in the truck.

All of them, curious what your tongue weight is and total trailer, what you truck weighed.
