What WDH do you recommend?

I'm looking to purchase a White Hawk 29 REKS. What WDH do you recommend and why. I assume I'll also need sway bars.

Do some searching and you'll find lots of posts on this topic in this forum... and lots of opinions!

I've been very happy with my Equal-i-zer® 4-point hitch. The hitch head and load bars provide friction to reduce sway so no additional sway control is needed.

Haha. I figured there'd be lots of opinions. Just like will my truck tow this camper.

Pro Pride 3P for a relaxing "no white knuckle" driving experience. Expensive but worth every penny if you have any sway issues at all.

Wow. 5 times the price of the equalizer. Is it that much better?

And I love my Hensley which is like the pride pride. For a variety of reasons, I decided I wanted to go that route. I'm still not always quick hooking it up, but I am surely comfortable with the ride

I used a Reese Dual-Cam with our WH and was very happy with it. Think you'll love the REKS floor plan

Well.....after pulling my TT from New Mexico back to East Texas with all the strong side winds that are very common in that part of the world and feeling the effects of "many" eighteen wheelers blasting by me I was more than ready to fork out the extra $$ for the Pro Pride hitch. After installing the PP I could relax and drive with one hand and enjoy our trips again. Our safety and being able to enjoy pulling the TT down the highway was well worth the investment.

I am currently upgrading to a FW and am looking forward to seeing how it will tow vs. the TT.

What will you be towing the whitehawk with? You'll get a few different recommendations and most are happy with what they have...

I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro WDH and I'm very happy with it. It works great and is easy to setup. No messing with adding or taking away washers, etc. You mentioned sway bars and the Blue Ox is an all in one. Sway control is built in to the design.

What WDH do you recommend?

Gonna be using a Silverado 1500 4x4 with heavy duty tow package. Rated for 9500# (dry weight of the 29reks is 7000#) and tongue weight of 1100# with weight distribution hitch (750# for the reks)

Another vote for the equalizer 4-point hitch. The sway control is built in to the system. Plus it's affordable and relatively easy to use. We seriously considered going with a Hensley or Pro-Pride hitch, but it wasn't in the budget.

Welcome and congrats on the potential new rig!!!

For the wdh, a model with integrated sway control is highly suggested. The Reese Dual Cam (trunnion model), Reese SC, and the Equal-I-Zer 4 way system are all very good models for the price. The Reese hitch head (same for both models) does offer a little more fine tuning adjustment vs the E4, but you won't go wrong with any of these systems.

The Hensley and Pro Pride are regarded as the best, but are pricey and on the heavy side. With the model you are considering, and the tv, you will probably be near the limit for the receiver hitch rating.

The "brochure" dry tw of 785lbs does. It include the weight of the propane tanks and a battery on the tongue. That alone can add ~120lbs for 2-20lb tanks and a battery, or ~160lbs for 2-30lb tanks and a battery. So pack carefully. I would suggest going with the 1200lb rated wd bars. Guessing you may be knocking on the door of 1000lbs tw, if not a little more.

Depending on the year Silverado you have, keep an eye on the factory receiver hitch if it's a round tube model. What latching up the wd bars, the factory hitch can twist ("wind up"). A square tube hitch generally does not have this issue like the round tube models.

Good luck on the new rig and deciding on the wdh!!!

Based on the assumptions below I would be looking for a WDH brand rated at 1,200lbs minimum and with "integrated" sway control (i.e.; Equal-i-zer, Reese Strait-Line, etc.).

Keep in mind that the published 2016 REKS 7,000lb UVW isn't an "as shipped" UVW, check the yellow sticker on the TT for an "as shipped" UVW, it will be heavier. The 29 REKS has a 8,500lb GVWR.

As your aware the 29 REKS under loaded conditions will have a heavier loaded tongue weight then the published 2016 dry weight of 750lbs (2017 is 785lbs). Depending on your loading habits the actual loaded tongue weight could be 1,000lbs to 1,200lbs. Recommended loaded tongue weight for the 29 RETS 13% to 15% of gross loaded weight.

Please note that TT loaded tongue weights are subtracted from a vehicle's payload capacity.

Just food for thought.

Bob

X2. We pull a 28DSBH with the Andersen. Truck and trailer move as one. No sway, eliminates a ton of bounce, and big rigs have no effect upon us. It's affordable, clean (no grease), backs up without issue, and is silent. And it weighs just 53 lbs, an extra bonus if you're close on tongue/cargo weight. And Andersen customer service is great.
