Why are tow dollies so expensive?

Why are tow dollies so expensive?

The cheapest new ones I can find are around $1200...and that doesn't even include the straps.

And then, the dealers don't offer financing.

Just venting...

I've often wondered that as well. When we had a motorhome, we flat towed a 2012 Honda Fit. It was cheaper for me to install the tow bar bracket, buy the tow bar, wire the lights up etc than it was to get a dolly. Bad thing with flat towing, is you limit yourself a LOT to which vehicle you tow.

Unenclosed motorcycle trailers are very similar to tow dollies, and they are not cheap either. I bought my Kendon single-bike trailer off Craigslist for $1100 but new it would run $2,600.

They are expensive just like all things RV. People pay the price for the luxury items we like to have. Definitely an investment in a non essential want. I'm not sure what the profit margin is on these items , but I suspect it's 20% plus. Where most profit return I would guess averages around 10% in general.
