Will the Expedition do this job?

I recently purchased a 2014 20MRB White Hawk Caravan, Equalizer hitch, and a brake controller. I have an '06 Expedition with factory air suspension, and has a GVWR of 7100 lbs., as my TV. The Expedition has a standard rear end, 4 speed transmission(3+OD), and doesn't have a heavy duty tow package. The 20MRB has a total loaded weight limit listed as 6000 lbs. Will the Expedition do this job?

My trailer is about 500 lbs lighter then yours and my 2003 Expedtion tows it no problems even on the grades we have in BC. I've got the 5.4 and the towing package with 3.73 gears. (8900lb towing cap)

Not sure what the towing limit is without the towing package.

Well, from a weight stand point it depends on your personal loading habits..., and TV towing expectations can vary from person to another.

If you want to take out all the guess work, and since you already have the TV and the TT.., IMO take your TV/TT combination to a CAT scale and weigh it under "loaded" conditions. The CAT scale results will tell you where you stand with your TV/TT combination's specified weight limits, and confirm your proper WDH sizing/adjustments.

CAT scale 'how-to': http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...igh-Your-tt-tv

Assuming that the CAT scale results say everything is good-to-go, you can then decide if your Expedition meets your towing expectations based on how it's presently equipped (engine size, gear ratio, suspension, etc.). Some folks travel mostly on the flats, so hills and mountains aren't an issue......, all depends on where your camping travels take you.

The nice thing about TV Towing Packages the transmission cooler sizing and axle gear ratios are more suited for towing.

Hopefully some more JOF members will chime in on their personal experinces towing with a Expedition as well.
