Would these changes make a noticeable difference?

In a different thread I had asked everyone's opinion about P rated tires versus LT tires on their TV's. Here's what I'd like to know now...if I were to install LT tires and heavy duty shocks on my Avalanche, would I really see a noticeable difference in the feel of towing my trailer? Right now they are 20", P rates tires and there are only factory shocks on the truck. I really want to eliminate that "squishy" feel I am currently experiencing in the back of the truck.

Can't attest to the squishy feeling, but here is our experience....

Buying the F-150, we really liked the Platinum, but they came with the 'P' 20's. I did a lot of research on those tires through tire sites, rv forums, and also calling the manager of each tire shop in town. We haven't towed with 'P' rated 20's, but understood that anything other than driving it like a car, there was an increased risk of failure under load of towing/hauling thus comprising your/others safety on the highway.

I can tell you that with our 18" LT tires, we keep the rear tires at 50psi and fronts at 40-45psi while towing. When not towing, the ride is pretty firm at 50psi, so we drive with 45 lbs then.

Thanks for the input healthi...will consider what you're saying but really am looking forward to making some tire changes before long to the LT tires.

@ healthi

Who makes 18" LT tires? I have had trouble finding them for my F150. It runs a 265/60 18" tire.

Thanks!

Nobody. I searched several of my tire suppliers across the midwest- nobody builds that size in an LT rating or even an XL (extra load). I tried going up to a 265/65r18, and still nothing. Going up one more size to a LT275/65r18, and everybody builds that size in an LT 10-ply rating. However, your truck may not allow that larger size tire to fit. If your F150 is four-wheel-drive, they may fit - but you'll have to find a tire shop that we be willing to test fit one tire before you buy them. If your F150 is two-wheel-drive, don't hold your breath.

Using a fitment guide, going from a 265/60r18 to a 275/65r18 is only about 3% taller & wider- and it should work with no issues. But thats a guide- a real world test fit will give a definitive yes or no.

newrvguy68--- When changing to a different size tire just be sure that the circumference stay's the same or you will screw up your tv's computer in reguards to speed & mileage and maybe a host of other systems on the tv. Larry

19H...I discussed this very thing that you are talking about with the tire store and they suggested that I take it to the dealership to see if they are able to recalibrate the tv's speedometer. They also said that it may require setting the tire pressure monitoring system to a higher range.

Continental and Kumho. The Contis were original equipment on my F-250. I now have Kumho LTs on my truck because at the time, Continental replacements were on back order.
