Wonder if anyone else has or is towing a camper larger than the X17Z with a Nissan Frontier?

The trailer weights in at about 3,000 lbs dry and no more than 3,500 lbs loaded. The truck has a 5 speed automatic with no tow haul mode. I feel that the transmission is always in the wrong gear for the engine power curve. The truck has a tow rating of 600lb tongue and 6000lbs. I do use a weight distribution system with the X17Z.

I would like to hear your opinions on the truck trailer combo.

What does Nissan recomend for the frontal sq area (truck & trailer). The other main item, does your truck have a tow package.

I have a '09 Fronty SE 4x4 and tow a 19H, 3775lbs from the factory. Truck has adequate power for it. My TT has the tamdem axle, so it may be a little less sensitive to crosswinds than the 17Z, but you'll be hauling less weight. Keep it out of overdrive(as per the owners manual) except when coasting downhills or maybe on the flats with a tail wind and you should be okay. You'll definitely notice a drop in fuel economy, mostly due to wind resistance. I keep my speeds down to around 100 kph(60 mph) on the highway and manage to stay at the speed limits for secondary highways. Avoid quick starts and stops, and you'll be easier on your drive train as well.

I have a setup that is close to yours. A 2006 Pathfinder and an X17C. Indiana is mostly flat but I found the Pathfinder to have plenty of towing power. I did tow in 3 and found that to run 55 I was at about 3400 RPM at to go 60 would push it to about 3700 RPM. On a couple of occasions I moved it to D with the overdrive off. The truck did not seem to struggle and the RPMs dropped about 700 - 1000 RPM. I wasn't comfortable leaving it there without a transmission temperature gauge but the "hunting" for a gear that I've read about did not seem to be a problem in 3 or D (with overdrive off). I think you should be be fine if you make sure the OD is off. Gas mileage is another story but that, I've learned, is a universal, unavoidable law of towing.

I am towing the same x17z with a 2004 Nissan Frontier (3.3 v6) 4x4 auto, longbed. I have WDH and sway control. Tows ok, lose speed on hills. but with overdrive off at 60mph i am about 3000 rpm. Its been going good. Wish i had a bit more power but i take it slow, im in no rush.

I am pulling a 23b which is 4100lbs with a Honda Ridgeline which has a 5000 lbs max tow rating. Now I avoid all interstates if at all possible and keep my max speed at 60 unless I am going downhill with a tailwind. You should be fine. Just take it slow and remember you are on vacation.

I tow a x17z with a 09 Frontier 4x4. No towing package, but I do use wt ditribution and sway controls. It seems ok but as others have mentioned, the hills slow me down. I can usually chug along at 60-65 and keep rrpms around 3000.
