2011 x17z bathroom mirror to medicine cabinet?

Hello, has anyone replaced their bathroom mirror in their x17z with a small medicine cabinet? Any instructions or pictures on how to get the old mirror off without destroying the wall. Did you glue the other one on with super glue?

I've wondered this myself. I think it would be handy to have a medicine cabinet in there.

I guess I should feel fortunate that my 2010 model came with a medicine cabinet and a mirror on the door. Seems like a dumb move on Jayco's part to not offer a medicine cabinet on the later model.

I was just getting ready to replace my mirror when I found this great hanging organizer at Walmart. It hangs on the inside of our commode door. It has room for all our toiletries, extra washcloths, toothbrushes, soaps and has an extra hanger for towels. And everything stays put when we travel. We've had it for several months now and are very satisfied.

I use an over the door shoe holder to put all our toiletries in. But a medicine cabinet would be nicer.

My friend "MyToys" purchased her 2010 17Z a month or so after I purchased my 17Z. There were a few differences, one being a mirror. The night she bought her trailer we removed the mirror and added a medicine closet. I let her pry the mirror off of the wall. I think we used a small pry bar. To attach the medicine closet we used a roll of double sided tape. It has never been a problem in her trailer.

Call Jayco and ask. They will want the last 8 digits of you vin #.

When we were looking to buy, not having a medicine cabinet was a big deal. We looked at a LOT of trailers. The ones that had a medicine cabinet had them mounted just like your kitchen cabinets. They use Kreg (brand) pan head screws. Just remove a screw from one of your existing cabinets that go into the exterior wall and measure it. Then just buy the same size screws and as long as your mounting blocks are the same size (½” x ½”) lumber you will be fine.

Maybe you leave the mirror there, and mount the cabinet around it. I guess it depends on how big the cabinet is. I would be afraid to peel off the mirror and at the same time peel off the wall covering. Yikes!

I think I bought it for her at Lowes. It was not at an RV store. It is "wood" and had a little weight to it, but not too bad. Checked and we used 4 screws along with the double sided tape. My medicine cabinet is attached to the wall with 4 screws. It is plastic with a wood framed mirror on the door. I wanted the door to open the other direction so I removed my cabinet and then reinstalled it.

Immediate Disclaimer: I've never done this or even seen it done... but I guess if everybody who uses the internet to post "knowledge" really had to know something there would be a lot fewer internet postings...

I've read that people have removed mirrors that are adhered to walls with glue by using tooth floss or fishing line. Cut maybe a 3 foot piece of the fishing line or floss, attach a handle of some sort to each end and then use in a sawing motion between the mirror and the wall to saw the glue off. I don't know what it does to the wall underneath, probably depends on what the wall covering is. Maybe use some tape to temporarily hold the mirror to the wall to keep the mirror from smashing your toes.

Im might try to remove the mirror tommorrow, even if it destoys the wall behind it, what would it matter? Im going to super glue a medicine cabinet over it! If I can do it right, i attach some before and after pics

I may have posted these before, but this is what I did:







I left the mirror on the wall over the sink and mounted the cabinet over the toilet with 4 good screws. No problem with it so far. I got the cabinet at Lowes.

I also like that doing it this way I don't have to worry about taking down the factory installed mirror.
