2013 Jayco 19H Questions

Hello everyone. I am trading my 2007 jay feather 197 for a 2013 19h. Have not seen the 2013 in person because its in route. Do the 2013 19h have heated mattresses? Did they remove the shower surround on the 2013 versions? Is my 10,000 lb. equalizer too much and should I buy a new 6000lb equalizer instead? Thanks everyone, love this site!!

Greetings, clossan1, and welcome to the JOF. As I'm sure you know by now, all of your questions will be answered by one of the many experienced folks on this forum. I have a 2013 X19H also, and we absolutely love it!! Ours did NOT come with heated mattresses, but I believe it was an option. We use electric blankets when it gets cold (cold being a relative term--we're from Michigan!) and a 1500 watt electric heater in conjunction with the furnace. Our shower surround is not deep, maybe 4" or so, if that's what you mean; I know in prior years they did have a deeper shower pan. It also comes with a shower curtain and not glass doors, if that's what you mean by a shower surround. I'm no expert on anything RV related, because I'm new to this, but a 10,000 pound Equalizer sounds like too much, but in saying that I don't believe you need to go out and replace it with something smaller, either. What is your TV? We pull our TT with a 2013 Ford Explorer V-6. We have a WDH and sway bar, and the truck pulls us down the road with no problems whatsoever. Within a couple of days, real experienced and knowledgable campers will chime in and tell you everything you need to know. Happy Camping!!!

Jayco and most WDH manufactures recommend a loaded tongue weight of 10% to 15% of the loaded weight of the X19H. Assuming a maximum X19H loaded weight of 4,950lbs (it's GVWR), the recommended loaded tongue weight would be 495lbs to 742lbs, so even under worst conditions a 8,000lb (800lb tongue rating) Equal-i-zer brand WDH would be more then sufficient. Yes, a 6,000lb (600lb tongue rating) Equal-i-zer would work fine as long as the loaded X19H tongue weight didn't exceed 600lbs. When it comes to WDH sizing, one's loading habits should be taken into consideration.

Have your RV dealership confirm if there are any WDH rating limitations for the X19H (warning label on A-frame). Using a 10,000lb (1,000lb tongue rating) WDH one could say is an overkill, and will also make the WDH adjustment process much more critical to insure that proper weight distribution is obtained (to much force could compromise the HTT's A-frame).

Whichever Equal-i-zer you go with, make a visit to your local CAT scale to confirm that it is properly adjusted under "loaded" conditions.

I think when he means surround, the OP is asking about the wall covering or tub around kit. I think they did away with those in 2012, and it just has the paper covering, and not plastic, with the push pins holding it on. I bought mine new last year, but it was an 11 leftover. It had it, and the moon room in the bathroom. I think there is a good chance with a 10K hitch, you might bend the frame. Mine came with the heated mattress covers, and it is an option. They don't heat like an electric blanket, and some many people don't care for them.

One problem I did not like was they do not come with a propane tank cover, and I had to buy one. Also, they don't have the fake glass cabinet doors now either.

Thanks everyone for your response, really appreciate it. Yes I was referring to the wall covering around the tub. So now I need to decide whether or not to remove my equalizer before I get to the dealer and purchase a new one from them. I don't want them to think or discover that I damaged the frame. Oh brother!!

For clarification:

Some folks refer to a standard WDH (weight distribution hitch) as an "equalizer hitch".., but it should be noted that there is a WDH with a brand name of "Equal-i-zer". The weight rating references are the same, but the "Equal-i-zer" brand WDH has integrated sway control, where a standard WDH requires an added product called a friction sway control bar for sway control.

Both WDH products will perform well when sized, installed, and adjusted correctly.

The hitch I bought from the dealer, they said was overkill but not a problem to use. I just bought a 2005 19H and pull it with a 2007 Envoy.

Its a pro series WDH 10,000lb. My TV is a 2007 Envoy 4wd.

You definitely got more hitch than you will ever need. The 19H I had weighed roughly 4,950 loaded and tongue weight is around 400-450lbs.

I just discovered my Equalizer is the 13000 lb version. Oh brother. I know thats too much for the 19h, but should I buy a new one?

Clossan 1, I would check any maximum hitch ratings on your trailer. Mine is located on the trailer near the front of my 228. It states not to use a wd hitch over 10,000 pds. I purchased the 10,000 in case i get a larger trailer in the future. The dealer and Equalizer only said that i might make for a stiffer ride over the 6,000 pd. It seems to ride smooth enough for me possibly because i don't have a heavy duty suspention on my truck. My trailer ways 4,600 pds loaded

I agree, the incorrect WDH weight rating for the X19H.

If you have a "standard" WDH and depending on the brand (Reese, DrawTite, etc.), you might be able to change out the spring bars to a lower rating, as long as the spring bars are compatible to the standard WDH ball mount in question..., thus avoiding the cost of a totally new WDH.

If your WDH is an "Equal-i-zer" brand, the spring bars are not interchangeable.

We also have a 2011 19h and we use a heated mattres pad we brought it at Target and it works great and has dual controls so I can have it a little cooler them the bride

13000 lb WDH is too much for a 19H. You should check with the brand WDH you have. You might be able to purchase new trunion bars and keep everything else the same. You may also have an issue with elevation too.
