2017 Jayfeather 7 17xhd
Bought this from dealer 2 months ago. The mrs and i were retiring and our house sold crazy fast. Spent the time learning the camper best we could. Dealer isn't so great with info. Owners manual not very helpful. I now have the camper at our cabin. Had a pad dug out of the mountain side for it.
So I would like to use the battery every now and then as we clean and prep for our next camping trip.
How does one switch to battery power? Panel shows full charge on battery. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and wisdom.
Model is xfd. Spell check error.

The "switch" is automatic when you are off of shore power. If you are on shore power, then the converter takes over to provide 12v power to the equipment on that side.
However, just be aware of what does run on 12V. You can use the lights, pump, ceiling fan, and bunk fans only; radio should work as well. Your fridge and water heater can run on propane with battery power present as well.
You cannot use any 120V outlets, the A/C, the microwave, or the TV set when only on 12V unless you have installed an inverter to power some of those items. An inverter is not standard equipment on the HTT line.
Consider how long you use high draw items as well, as the battery can drain pretty quickly if you are not careful in usage. I have a 40W solar panel that does a pretty good job of keeping the battery topped off from occasional use.

I was afraid you would say that. No power at all to lights etc.

Yes, lights are 12V

Well l found the problem. Blown 30 amp fuse. Located in a pig tail outside camper forward side between A frame arms. Lights and radio work. 👍Makes cleaning, organizing and restocking much easier.

Sorry, didn't realize it wasn't working when off shore power. That fuse would have been my suggestion for the first place to look.
If you have a power tongue jack, the most common cause of blowing that fuse is running the jack full in. As soon as it hits resistance, the fuse pops. Most folks mark a line on the jack just before fully retracted, and then never cross that line. If you have this situation, pack a few extra 30a fuses until you get used to it.

Your battery is going to need occasional charging, even if you don't use it very much. Assuming your cabin has power, perhaps you could run a cheap extension cord to the shore power just to keep it charged but don't expect to use your air conditioner without at least a #12 cord.
If that's not possible, a small solar panel will keep it happy as was mentioned earlier. Or you could remove the battery from time to time and charge it with an external charger at your house or cabin.
